Hello all,

One night I found a small kitten crying on the porch, we watched to make sure the mom was not coming back. We finally brought the kitten in and loved her.

Two weeks later we found the mom and two kittens, one boy and one girl. I was not able to get the kittens or the mom. I would take food out to them and started feeding them once in the mourning and once at night. I would sit outside and talk to them when they came out to eat. This took about a year.

Eventually i was able to get close to the mom when she was eating to pet her. Then she had kittens in my shed. I was able to get closer and closer to the kittens, yes the mom hissed at me. Soon i was able to get close enough to pet the mom and her kittens, she even let me pick them up. I found homes for all eight of her kittens. I was about to take mom and her first daughter to the vet to be spayed. That's when her daughter had kittens, and mom was helping to nurse them. So we found homes for them. We were going to take them up to the vet again, when mom got pregnant. These cats are worst then rabbits. We took the daughter to the vet and got her spayed.

Mom had two kittens, that survived. They started to walk and leave the shed. I knew that they were too young to leave the mom, but if i did not get them I risked not getting them at all. So i was able to put the kittens into a dog crate and mom followed. I brought the crate into my house and made a spot in the basement for them.

I blocked off a small area. I put a large dog pillow and a blanket, a litter box, and a small pet condo that i made. Mom freaked out at first. Then a day later she started staying with the kittens. She is very protective of her kittens. I think this helped with the whole bringing inside bit. One night one of the kittens was trying to climb over the wall that i put up. I went to grab the kitten and the mom scratched me. It was not very bad, but enough to let me know that if she wanted to she could mess me up.

So far everyone is doing good. The kittens are running around playing, mom is moving around and keeping an eye on them. I also have 3 cats( the one that started all this and two of mom's kittens, and 2 dogs upstairs. I keep a dog gate at the top of the basement stairs. This way everyone can see each other, but mom won't freak out by the other animals. I figure if everyone see's each other long enough, I could bring mom upstairs.

We have already found homes for the two kittens. And mom is getting spayed in a week or two. Hopefully she will get along with the other animals, I can't see putting her back outside.

WOW!! What a great job you have done and to find homes for all of those kittens is remarkable. I am glad everyone is spayed-no more kittens-and living indoors. Wishing you the best for keeping her indoors.

An interesting example it is often best to catch the kittens first. Mom will either follow or you can use the kittens as bait in catching her.

Second, it is an wonderful example the main thing for the wild moms isnt "freedom" but their kittens will have it good and safe...

I do wonder. You manage to find homes for all kittens.

You are a truly "factory" with this"

Awesome!

How do you do it? What is your trick??

Good work!!!

Well everyone we know now has kittens. Mom had eight kittens, then skittie had 5, then mom had 2 more. We were able to talk a couple of people into taking two kittens. We told them that it was actually easier to have two kittens then just one. The kittens will keep each other occupied, and make them less scared.

It has been very hard letting go of them. I had brought them into the basement and had spent a ton of time with all of them. I worried about making sure that they had good homes and that everyone would love them. It did help that I got all of them litter trained, and use to humans.

I actually turned down a person who wanted to make the cat an inside outside cat. I spent all of this time getting these kittens and worrying about them, i did not want to see them just put back outside.

Luckily everyone has been happy and the kittens have all settled in an have found good homes. I love getting pictures from them and seeing how they have grown.

One of the kittens that we kept (we named baby ) was the runt of the litter. This kitten was so small, she looked like Smeagol from lord of the rings. Everyone thought she was ugly, but to me she was just so cute i had to keep her. Well she has grown into a gorgeous cat. I just think it is amazing, that this kitten if left outside would not have survived. But thanks to me, now she has a wonderful life.

I love reading posts like these!! What a great thing you have done!! I am so happy you were very selective in who you gave your kittens to. Last year at Halloween a woman was giving out kittens to anyone who was interested. Luckily one next door neighbor to her took 1 and she kept the other 3. She now realizes that was probably not the smartest way to find homes. At my constant urging the mom and remaining kittens have been spayed and are now kept inside and everything has worked out well for them.

Your kitty "baby" has a wonderful life ahead of her with you!!

The hard thing is giving them away. Right now I have 2 dogs and 3 cats upstairs. Downstairs I have 3 cats, the mommy and two kittens.

The kittens are going to a new home in a week or so. The mommy i am going to try and introduce to everyone upstairs. Hopefully everyone will get along.
