I just bought a clicker. I'm wondering if someone can advise me on the steps I need to take to train my cat to not jump on my Christmas tree (when I put it up).
This is what I was planning on doing -
1. putting it in a new place than last year
2. putting it on an area rug so there is a sort of 'boundary' both visual and tactile
The cats like to climb the tree and I want to reward them for not getting on the tree - actually not going onto the area rug near the tree. I'm thinking something along the lines of clicking to bring them back away from the tree for a treat. If they go on the rug, no treat.
I think it may need to look more like a come when called thing - but I'm not sure....any ideas?
