I think there will be very little argument on this topic.

GO VOTE!

As much as we will never ever agree on specific topics in this forum I think we can all say that it's important to vote.

This election is going to be historic, and the lines on November 4th are going to be long. If you have the option in your state vote early.

I'd also like to point out, I'm very jealous of Nevada. One can vote in a shopping mall, grocery store, or anywhere else a polling location is set up. That state has made it very easy for it's citizens to cast their ballots.

Now, if you can early vote in your state I'd like people to post exactly how to do it. Here is Ohio's just click on your county and find your location and hours.

I'm lucky as far as voting goes. I live in a Kentucky county with a very low population. Over 80% of our county is inside the boundary of a National Park. I've never had to wait over 10 minutes.

I wish. When I voted in 2004 I waited in line for 2 hours! I had to call into work and argue with my supervisor that I was going to be late.

However, I live in a swing state, so it's a little different here.

Yup, Go Vote!

I admit though that I am waiting until election day. My polling place is at the local fire department and has a sweet older lady helping at every election. It just seems right (for me) to vote there.

Besides, with so many people voting early, Nov. 4 may not be as busy as expected. We shall see.

I've never had more than 4 people in front of me. It could be different this time, but I'll take my chances. I am looking forward to it actually.

isn't it the law that they have to give you time to go vote.
I'm going to wait until the day of, because this is my FIRST time voting! I could have voted in the last two elections, but I didn't feel I would be making an informed decision before.

I've spent more time looking at the issues that are important to me, and I really feel strongly for where my vote will be cast.

So, that being said, I'm going to wait until November 4, vote at the student union on campus, and enjoy the feeling that I voted.

You know, I'm not sure. My former boss at my former workplace was a .

He's the same man who, when the entire city of Cleveland was shut down by a massive snow storm, complained that I was 10 minutes late.

I think that is probably by State also. In Kentucky, employers have to give their employees up to 4 hours of unpaid time off to vote. But, the employee has to tell them in advance that they will be using the time.

It's interesting, but Kentucky also allows employers to penalize employees that take the time off, but don't cast a vote.

It varies from state to state. Here is a listing of all states.

I'm all for Election Day being a federal holiday.

That's just my little opinion.

Paid? If so, I second the motion.

Well, since we all know Obama is going to win,
there is no need for obama supporters to waste there time, showing up.
so they should just go to work, or do whatever it they do on that day

Can I just ask that we don't bring politics into this? There are plenty of threads to argue every single point of this election. I just wanted this to be about going out and voting.

I voted last Saturday in a shopping mall, in North Carolina. It was a very smooth process, 30 minutes from the time entering the line to ballot in hand. I feel sorry for people in Florida and other places standing in line 6 hours to vote! God bless them for hanging in there.

My first time voting! I forgot to every year until now.....but this one is worth voting for!

I lost a very close friend in a fatal car accident last night. He fought long and hard for the election and its sad that he's not going to see November 4th. The future of our country is at state with this election.

DH and I are asking that in lieu of condolenses, simply vote. Kenny would have wanted it that way.

(don't respond to this here - don't want to hijack the thread)

DH and I voted last week.

I am voting on tuesday. I have the day off so I will wait for husband to get off work and we will both go. We live in a town of 3,000 people and they split the town in 2 on our voting places to go. I doubt my line will be long!!!!! There is never a waiting line for anything where I live. I love it

ha ha funny. Everyone should go vote no matter who your cadidate. I live in a state that goes one way in huge numbers. I feel like it is pointless sometimes but I will still vote because one day it will be closer. I voted already and voted for republicans and Democrates based off who I thought was better for the job and who I agreed with more. We will see what the outcomes will be. Im kinda excited and scared at the same time. Who knows what the next four or 8 years will bring.

In Australia, the elections are always on a Saturday.

To those in the US - VOTE VOTE VOTE!

Yuppers, VOTE! If you don't vote, don't complain about who got into office.

I enjoy going into that old town hall and seeing those volunteers who take care of the grass roots part of it. And on my way back out down the steps onto the cold street I always give a friendly wave to BOTH groups that are standing out there with their signs, and a small thumbs up to the group representing the candidate I voted for.

I mailed in my absentee ballot last Saturday!! much easier than going to the polls
post #26 of 33
I voted last saturday so I wouldn't have to stand in that long line on election day. My polling place is at the local fire station down the road, but after voting in the primary, never again! I was in line for at least an hour.

I plan on picking up a bunch of food on election day and camping out in front of the TV.

Just go out and vote! You can't complain about who is elected if you don't vote!

I hope everybody goes to vote. I will be there on Tuesday. I was saddened Friday by a women who said she will not vote as she didn't think her vote would matter in DC. There was nothing I could say that would change her mind that all votes count no matter who wins.

There are so many issues on the ballots that affect you that voting is important even when the party you oppose for the presidency is overwhelmingly the majority.

This is the first time since I started voting in 28 years that our state has been competitive, but I have voted every year because I can influence the state and local levels which are just as important.
I agree that it's important to take part in the process. The sad part is that at least half of Americans voting have no idea who or what they are voting on because they have no grasp of the issues.

You could very well be right. I tend to give people a little more credit, but; I think the average voter casts their vote "line of sight". As in, what they can see around them and how they personally will be affected. I think most votes are cast with a simple formula; "How does it affect me, my family, my job, and will they still deliver my mail?"
