Are you getting robo-calls?

Thread Starter
Surprisingly, I just got my first robo-call right now. I'm not in a battleground state so never expected to be hit with one. But this was from someone running for a state office. It was a negative attack (used the words sleazy and lies), and from the republican camp.

Are you getting robo-calls and what are you hearing?

I had some nutty Democrat call me up and threaten to kill me dead when I said I voted for McCain.

Yes, but only 3, and 1 of those was in a local race I didn't even know we were having

We're on the "do not call" list, so we shouldn't get any.

I've been getting up to 3 and 4 a day!! Sometimes just one and we've gone a few days without a call, but man oh man am I ever SICK of these calls!! Whatever happened to going door to door to campaign? Or are the politicians scared of my neighborhood??

As far as who is calling, well it's everyone as far as I can tell from the ones I've listened to at all. Most get hung up on straight away now; if I even answer it at all. Some end up talking to my answering machine. I'm even getting them regularly at work. I am so beyond ready for the campaigning to be over.

Political calls are exempt from the registry unfortunatly. I just verified with their website. See questions 28 and 29 here: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/cons...ts/alt107.shtm

Make that 4

I just got another one for the state Senate race.

We aren't answering anything that the caller ID says is a "Political Call" but yes, we're getting tons of them. I guess since Colorado is a battleground state this year. It's so annoying to get 4-5 calls PER NIGHT, and I don't even want to know how many during the day when we're at work.

I can't wait until after the election!!

i've gotten some... but i'm not sure what they were about mostly they were messages on my machine - i listen for a few seconds to determine if it's something i need to know[like my script is ready, etc], then delete if it's not.

I'm to the point where if I get another call, I'm NOT voting for that person!

The best one I got so far was a survey from a state senator just having me rate different issues. That one I did and didn't mind. This guy seems like one of the better ones. I know in the past I've e-mailed him regarding issues and I get an actual response, not just a form letter. That's why I didn't mind taking his survey.

I got one about a proposition I planned to support anyway, so I didn't mind.

I've gotten them from various Republican staffers, as well as Rudy Guliani and Tom Ridge. All of them ugly and inaccurate. I don't believe I've gotten any from the Democrats, although I've gotten 2 live calls from Obama staffers urging me to vote early (I did).

It's so much fun being in a battleground state

I have been getting lots of robo-calls and lots of messages on the answering machine from various politicians. I also get duplicates of every piece of political mail (one in my maiden name, one in my married name).

I don't mind when the people call and survey. I usually stay on the line and answer their questions. I haven't had any rude surveyers though. I even had an Obama person come to the door and want to talk to me. She was retired looking and she was so passionate about her candidate, that I just had to invite her in for a few minutes to find out what would get somebody so passionate about their candidate that they would go door-to-door.

I unplugged my phone, so I should be getting them at home but I'm not.

Work, however, is a different story. I've had FIVE at work in the past two weeks. My supervisor is upset because our numbers aren't supposed to be published.

More robo phoners today that the entire campaign combined. 5 in the last 2 hours.

They must be assuming that everyone is home tonight handing out candy.

Not these days. I'm in NH so we are REALLY popular for about six weeks leading up to the primary.

After that nobody cares anymore.
