lack of common sense

ok who the heck gives a 8-year old a 9mm machine gun?
how the heck can a instructor or father even let the kid shoot a gun like that.

lack of common sense on the part of all adults involved.
May as well just give the kid a beer and the keys to the car

Colin told me about that this morning before I went to work. IDIOTS is all I can say about the father and the instructor! I hope they punish the father for gross neglegance or something like that! Idiots like that and the resulting tragedies give responsible gun owners a horrible name.

And surprisingly I heard on the news last night there might not even be a law against it.

Especially a compact auto like an Uzi. It takes practice to control an Uzi and auto weapons of that size. A good instructor would have been close enough to grab boy and/or gun before things got out of hand. Sadly, I'd say that probably wasn't the case here.

That's probably true. All the federal laws say is that you have to be of age to buy a gun. I don't know of any laws that address a minimum age for having a gun in the presence of an adult. Around here, boys and quite a few girls are taken on their first hunting trips shortly after getting big enough to pick a gun up.

I am AMAZED that this happened in Massachusetts. That is about 2 hr south of me and up here gun laws are comparatively loose, but Mass has some of the strictest laws in the country. I'm not sure I remember correctly but I don't think you can even pass through the state with your gun in your own car without a permit.

This is unbelievably stupid but if that father watched his own little boy die then he has enough punishment for a lifetime.

I agree. It's an absolutely horrible what happened. The father watched his child die, and that's more than enough punishment for him. I'm sure he's distraught over what happened and blaming himself on so many levels. What's punishing him further going to do? It'll just be harder for the family to deal with what happened, not just him.
