I got a new kitten about two months ago. He was shy at first but quickly clung to me. He followed me everywhere. I live in the country and he would come ride in the stroller with my little girl as we took a walk down the quiet country road. He slept on my neck most nights, some nights he cuddled under the covers. He loved everyone and was the happiest when he was sitting on your lap.

My mother in law came over and after she left I went to look for Sherbert. I couldn't find him anywhere. I got hysterical as I usually do when my 7 year old boss Middycat decides to hide from me. I could not find him anywhere. I looked outside and in the woods. I knew he wouldn't be in the woods but I thought well maybe he ran out when my mother in law left and got a little curious. So I got my dog and we went looking.

My mother in law came back and saw that I was upset and angry. She said he was on the porch when she left. I told her that he would not leave the porch, he wouldn't run away. I was still crying and was getting very angry at this point. I went back out to look for him and my husband calls me inside. My mother in law then told me that she accidentally ran over him when she was leaving. She said she did not know that he followed her to the car and did not see him as she was pulling out of the drive way. That is when I lost it. I cried for hours, I still do when I think about him or see his pictures. He was probably the sweetest little kitten I have ever had. I miss him terribly.

What a tragic story
Condolences on losing your sweet little Sherbert - he is now a little angel-star in Heaven, forever young, always remembered.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Pardon me, I'm guessing this is a little inappropriate for the RB page, but it does seem to me that your mother-in-law was trying to avoid tell you that she'd run over your baby Sherbert.

She actually ran over him when she left, probably discovered what she'd done at that point, and made a quick escape knowing that you'd be furious with her. Even after she came back, she hedged the issue one more time by saying that he was on the porch when she left... Only finally telling you that she'd run him over.

Sorry if I'm adding to your pain, but did you actually see Sherbert's body? If not, how do you know that your MIL is telling the truth? Could it be that she just cooked up some story to provide you some closure so you would not keep looking for him so frantically? Again, I apologise if I'm seen as insulting your MIL. She may be a really nice woman and all, but I am not in a position to tell. I'm just saying that what happened sounds extremely strange.

When my husband called me in the house and she told me that she ran over him she was crying really bad. She is not one to cry often so I believed her. I never saw his body she said that she took him to the local animal shelter so that they could take care of him. She said that she didn't want me to be mad at her because we are pretty much best friends. She kept apologizing and I am not mad at her I am just really hurt. I would have liked it if she had brought him to me and told me what happened and let me make my own decision of how to take care of him instead of taking him away and then trying to tell me the she saw him but maybe he ran off spill. I yelled at her when she said that and said "HE WOULD NOT RUN AWAY!" I feel in some way it is my fault I am usually very aware of where my animals are but with a 9 month old at my side all day it is hard to watch her and them too.

I am so sorry. It must hurt very much. I can't imagine how you or your MIL must feel. In my opinion, it's probably best that you didn't see your Sherbert like that . I hope your pain heals quickly.

That's a tragedy... I'd have preferred to see the body if I were in your shoes. It would provide some closure. I'm so sorry about the loss of your little baby boy. I'm sure you provided him with a great life while he was with you
