The faculty at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College had a strike date set for today (10/27) but they and the administration agreed to a contract over the weekend.

I'm relieved. I would hate to head into final exams for this term by having a substitute teacher instead of my regular profs.

I can't wait for this first term to end. It's been fun but I'm anxious to get to other subjects. I have a tough exam in Algebra 1 tomorrow but I'm confident I can end up getting an "A" for the class. The same with World History 1.

Sociology 1 should be a "B" (with an outside shot at an "A", the tests were pretty tough. I enjoy the discussions in the class but I haven't gained a new appreciation of Karl Marx. I still think he's a twit.

That's great that they averted a strike!

When I was in nursing school we had to take Sociology at the University. Of course the profs picked that year to go on strike!
The professor we had wasn't .... I forget the term .... anyway he didn't have his PhD so the stike didn't pertain to him, but he wouldn't cross the picket line out of respect for the other professors. So because there were several nursing students in the class and we needed that class in order to graduate from nursing school, he moved a couple of the lectures and one of the tests to the education building at the hospital where I was going to school.

The strike didn't last long, a couple weeks I think, but long enough to be an inconvenience for people.

I enjoyed Sociology, but to be honest I can't remember a thing we covered! I do remember we had to read some really weird books though. One was on Burger King and how they offer job titles in lieu of raises as compensation. And his wife who is a lawyer and taught law had written a couple of books which we also had to read. That wasn't so bad because I had worked as a paralegal so I found law rather interesting.

Sociology- ugh. I don't WANT to take this silly class. I have enough Psychology credits already (I was a Psych major). But I have to take it to get into the hospital nursing program I want.

I'm in the process of finishing a paper on why I think my family's culture is "unique". Then I've got another paper where I have to intervew a SAHM and a working mom and ask about labor sharing and decision making powers. I have BTDT both sides of the fence, but I can't write it on MY experience.

I could do without the book too.

Ok, I need to stop complaining about this class
It's something I need to get to my goal.

Anyhow, glad there was no strike.

I find the class quite enjoyable. My favorite parts are the discussions we have as we go through the various sections of the book (stratification, class, gender, etc). I love the interaction. There is a lot of information to take in. We didn't have to read any additional books but we had a number of films to watch and critique for a film journal (child abuse, American English, genocide and hatred). We also have a group film project due this week. Our group used the film "Of Mice and Men" for it.

I'll end up taking Sociology 2 because it looks more at government, ecnomics, politics, gender, etc.

Next term I'm taking Microeconomics, Algebra 2, World History 2 and a required course called College Success Strategies that they make new students take.
