Why they do that?!

Anyone knows for sure why Lucy Belle scratches her hooded litter box to cover up instead of the litter? She's not the only one I am sure. I am just so perplexed by this. And then she goes wondering why her litterbox smells ...

I don't know, but I've caught Marmalade scratching at the dryer when using the litter box near the dryer!

I wish I knew why. Mai Sai does the same thing on the wall next to his (his is uncovered) and by his food and water

I've seen my kitties wipe their paws on the edge of the litter box before leaving it. One of the boxes has a door, and I've seen Ripper doing that on the door.

When Ripper finishes eating, he sometimes paws at the floor before leaving the room.

I have another plastic container that's shaped like a small litter box. If I leave that box lying around empty, Ripper jumps into it, and paws furiously in its corners.

Zane will sometimes stand in front of his food or water bowl, paw on the rug, and yowl. Why, I don't know. There's always plenty of water in the bowl, and he is fed most generously.

It is instinct and shows that cats are not always as intelligent as we think they are! After using the box they just HAVE to scratch at everything in sight - the walls, floor, ceiling. It is on a par with the scratching they do on windows and French doors to get out - they never fathom that they cannot get through the glass.

That's certainly true of my cat Kit. Though I love the little girl she isn't the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree if you know what I mean. She too scratches the whole box but she does scratch the litter too. Sometimes she's soooooooooooooo thorough I think she's going to China. Funny unless it's 3 in the morning.

If Keeba throws up or happens to get poop on the floor she scratches/rubs the floor at it as if she's trying to clean it up herself.

Riley does this when we put food in her bowl that she doesn't like... she'll paw at the food bowl and the floor as if she's trying to get rid of it.
