As promised, here are a couple photos of hubby's guitar which he finally finished. He designed and made it from "scratch". The pictures don't do the finish justice as it shines like glass.

It is gorgeous Linda.
It must be really rewarding to create something that is beautiful in both sight and sound.

A beautiful piece of work. Did he make the neck, or salvage it from another guitar?

He made everything himself. I'm attaching 2 more pics to show the sunburst on the horn and the headstock.

The fretboard wood is Palo Fero (not sure of the spelling). He did, of course, buy all the hardware.

Oh wow how impressive! What gorgeous work. You must be so very proud.
Do you play any, Linda? or do you just get played to?

Could we see the back of the neck, please?

Also, is it a lacquer or polyurethane finish?

It's a polyurethane finish. He didn't take a photo of the back of the neck but we can get one and I'll post it. The neck is 3 pieces of birch (the wood was originally posts from my friend's daughter's bed that she gave us thinking John may be able to use it one day - little did she know it would end up as a guitar neck).

Wow, that is amazing - that's one talented hubby you have! Not only to make it but to be able to play it as well!

I don't know anything about guitars, but I know it looks gorgeous

Thanks everyone. This is the second one he has made. The first is a fretless with the ebony fretboard. He is meticulous and very finicky about his guitars. He refinished this one 15 times before he was somewhat happy with the finish.

Here is one of the headstock and one of the back (with Bijou).

Beautiful work. Now, if he'd wound his own pickups, he could truly claim it was a completely custom guitar and, as I said, the market in basses like that is $5,000-$15,000.

Thanks. He made one for his brother as well and when his brother decides what pick-ups he wants to use then John will finish that one as well. He has the painted finish on it and is just waiting on his bro. I'll get a photo of that one for you when he gets it together.

Will do. Bijou loves kisses, he truly does. John says that sometimes he is too needy but I personally love it.
