Hey all,
I'm toying with the idea of Potty-training my kitties. I've heard this can be done, however I've never actually known anyone who did it successfully!

What are the pros/cons of this?

My concerns: Toby used to have a problem with improprer urination outside his litter box. This has since been fixed, but I'm worried if I start to alter what he's finally become used to, that'll happen again.

Also, he has a tendency to want to drink out of the toilet. This concerns me. x.x;

Thanks!

Because of the past actions of inappropriate peeing and drinking out of the toilet, I would advise against trying to teach him.

Its a 50/50 chance. My biggest concerns is you have no control over checking the poop and checking urine. You won't know if he's going a lot or a little (urinary track infection).

I used to think about things like potty training my cats and teaching them to walk along on a leash. But these things are not natural to a cat. I have since decided to just let my cats be cats.

The quick answer for me is yes i have tried and no i wasn't successful!
When we moved to our new house last year when Alan (our kitty) was 1 we had a seperate loo which we didn't really use and was on ground floor. We got the litter quitter as we thought at the time that it was a good idea, no more scooping or litter and stuff like that. So we got one and he was fine with the beginning 'seat' but as soon as he saw water underneath he was scared. I soon realised that it wasn't a 'normal' way for a cat to go, he wasn't happy with it, i would not be able to 'monitor' his toilet usage and at times contents, and the guilty reality that it was all really just down to our own laziness that we wanted one in the first place. Poor little boy was like the cat that got the cream when he got a new and bigger kitty box in both bathrooms!

Mine were all trained using the Litter Kwitter, they've been fine for about a year but as I'm getting new kittens next year I'll be going back to having a litterbox down all the time.

try these steps
step 1- when you see your cat/kitten about to poop pick it up gently and carry to the litter box

step 2- give lots of attention once done the toilet and a treat

step 3-repeat very time until it learns doing the toilet in the box is a good thing

if it dose it anyway ells lightly tap the cat/kitten on the nose and say no
