Does any one here breed them? I just got a momma and her baby and have been reading up on them. They both have ringworm so I am taking a crash course in that as well. Any info on either subject would be appreciated. Thank you!!

Thought I should add that I am not going to breed them. I am having them both spayed once they recover from ringworm.

We've got a Siberian breeder who posts on our board. If you don't mind me asking, how did you come across this momma and her baby? Do they have papers (TICA/CFA)? It's so good of you to take both into your home, especially with ringworm. I've never had to battle that one myself, but from what I hear, it can be quite a trial.

It's a strange story actually. The momma is 3 yrs old and the baby is 8 wks old. The lady needed to get rid of them because they live with a family member who has health issues and they were afraid that the ringworm was going to strain her compromised system. Momma is TICA registered but I don't get the papers until after she is spayed. Momma is deaf but the kitten is fine. I don't think her story makes sense really. I have a feeling she was being used as a breeder but can't tell for sure. I also know that this lady breeds Chihuahuas. I can't believe I have been so lucky. Momma cat is very calm and quite, so is the kitten.
Here are their pictures:

Keller (momma) and Macy (baby) Momma was shaved to treat her better.

While I'm glad you got some nice cats and willing to fix them up with the ringworm, they are not Siberian cats. I don't think you will ever get "papers" on them, I think the lady told you lies. Since you got them for free, you are not "ripped off". Just love them and get mom and baby spayed as soon as you can.

This is what a true Siberian cat looks like.

Solid white cats with blue eyes are commonly deaf. I have 2 DSH deaf girls - they are lovely & IMO it doesn't affect their life much.

Was the mom cat shaved down because of the ring worm? I think it makes her look like a completely different type of cat. Do you have any pics of her from when she still had her coat?

Will the kitten also come with papers? Have you seen the mom's papers? Do you know her "show name"?

The lady may have been lying, the story changed every time we talked. According to her they didn't show her, just kept her out of another cats litter because she was deaf (they own her momma). This is the picture of her when she had her coat.

And her last littler of kittens (Macy is in the back, before ringworm)

Whatever the truth is, she is very pretty and we will lover her regardless.

I spoke with the lady today and she said that Kellers father was "Ivan" from Chimney House Siberians and her mother was "Angelica" from My Angels Siberians. She still hasn't scanned her papers for me to see and I really didn't even ask, it isn't that important to me. I just wondered if you thought it is possible that she is Siberian?

I located the website of Chimney House and Ivan. Her cats are decent. But the website from the mother, is not very good - very little info about their cats, pictures, etc. So I don't think the mother's side is good quality cats.

Just because someone's website doesn't have a lot of data does that necessarily mean their cats aren't of a good quality? I know breeders that have excellent quality cats but don't even have websites.

True, but if the cat in question is not good quality, one of the parents must not be that good of quality. However, you would think if they took the time to do a website, they would have more info/pictures of their cats for advertisment

I am considering getting an adult cat from a breeder. It was a show cat and then used for breeding a few times. Shes about 5.
Has anyone ever gotten an adult from a breeder and if so what has been your experience? Were they healthy? I'm concerned that maybe something is wrong or why would they look for a new home for her. I just think if it was a fantastic cat they would still keep her.

Your thoughts?

Nay, its common they take some litters, and let them retire from active duty.   One reason is its not good for their health to be too old when pregnant.  Another reason is they dont want to have too many individs with exaclty the same genes.  Not if they are selling the kittens for further breeding.  With pet quality it doesnt matter as much.

And if they want to continue their active breeding, they must find a new home for their retired cats.

Otherwise they would be forced to downgrade their breeding, if they had too many residents, ie retired breeding cats.

So yes, its common.

What you must look with, if the cats were kept as loved family pets, OR were in cages.  Which is common with big catteries.

Some good catteries the cats are OK, they make sure the cats are let out, get exercise and plays with humans every day.

But in some they are kept in cages the whole time, and are esseintially semiferale.  Its of course very grateful and praiseworthy to save these cats by giving them a good and loving home, but  its not everyone cup of tea.   After all,  many feels if you want a semiferale to foster, you can get one from a shelter or rescue group...   And you must be prepared, of course.

So.  Get knowledge of the situation, and take your stand from there.

If she is the common case of retiring, and you are anxious she may have some problems, let your vet examine her.  Its the common by the way.

Also, being a purebred of show class and in a breeding programme, has almost surely  insurance.   So the examinaion will cost, but any excessive therapy you will get help with from the insurance.   Possibly even some of the costs of  this vet check up.

Good luck!
