advice on Hailey's aversion to litter mats

My cat Hailey seems to not like litter mats...everytime we have one it seems like after a week or so she pees on it. This just started in 2008, before that it was just random peeing issues. Now we've been without a mat for a month or so and there's been no peeing session.

I'm moving to a new place and really want to put a mat down. Should I try it again? What can I do to get her to not pee on it?

Some cats just don't like them. I wouldn't use one if she is peeing on it.

I use rubbermaid storage tubs for litterboxes. I cut a hole in the lid big enough for my largest cat to get through. This creates a top entry litterbox, which also reduces tracking.

What kind of mats are you using? Maybe she just likes the surface better than the litter. Something different might work better.
