Yesterday, on my way to Midland and back, it seemed like I saw a lot of freshly killed cats. A weather change will often make it worse, for some reason.

1 brown tabby
1 brown tabby with white belly and paws (looked like our Ella!)
1 seal point kitten
1 orange tabby
1 white with yellow spots
1 black, right next to the white/yellow one

I suspect the Siamese kitten was from the house just a little ways back from the road. The others, who knows? They might have been feral. They might have wandered a little ways from home.

Poor babies. Nothing in their evolution prepares them for the wild in the U.S., and especially not for a busy highway.

I also live in Texas, and it's heartbreaking to see it along the rural highways where I live. Especially in the spring, when you know they are momcats.

I live in a small university town. We also see an increase of roadkill when the students come into town for the fall semester. I hate it every year.

RIP kitties.

I saw a nice black and white kitten yesterday also and it made my eyes tear.
I also saw 3 other dead cats in the last few days.
There has been way to many that have got hit.

When my dh rescued Fluffy, I went down that same road the next day and it looked like someone had just gone down the road tossing out kittens. It was awful to see 4 or 5 that looked just like her dead in the road. She was the lucky one I guess.

That just breaks my heart and the dangers from cars is just one of many reasons none of our cats will ever be outside.

Rest In Peace sweet babies

Poor kitties. I hope they didn't suffer.

I see a lot of cats laying in the roads here, too. I feel bad that they don't know enough to avoid cars. The sad thing is a lot of them are kittens. Makes me wonder if people are just tossing them out of their cars because they don't want them.

I'm so glad that I took in Snickers from being a stray so that the same thing doesn't happen to him.
