My sister got a new kitten, now 9 wks old. He constantly tries to kiss/lick your mouth when he is held.... He is persistent. What behavior is this mimicking (I am thinking it is like a nursing or smelling thing) and how can we discourage it?

I'm certainly no expert, but I would suggest you move him away and blow in his face gently or hiss at him to let him know it's not acceptable. It may just be a bonding issue. 9 weeks is young to take a kitten away from it's mom. The mom cat teaches the kittens acceptable behaviour so it's best to leave kittens with the mom cat until at least 12 weeks.

Don't use any punishment such as tapping his nose or spraying water or any physical means of deterrant other than the hissing or blowing.

Like Linda said, gentle blowing in their face, but no tapping or spraying.

I'm always getting kisses from my 3, but Jacks trick is to push his nose into my nostril

I love getting kisses from my kitty, it is so heart warming when he does it, which isn't too often!!! I kiss him on the nose too
. When Al does something that I don't want him to do though, like shoving his bum in my face
I just say a firm no. He is usually quite good.
