I went on vacation for 8 nights and my brother stayed at my apartment the whole time with my 2 cats (one is around 2 yrs old, the other is 6 months).

He's a huge cat lover and they had a great time- both cats even slept on him every night.

When we got home from vacation- the older cat was super playful and acted really happy we were home. My 6 month old seemed mad at us.

It's been a little over a week and the kitten is acting normal- using the litter box fine, eating/drinking normally, no problems jumping up on counter tops, etc. BUT- he's been super attached to me and won't play with toys.

Every second I sit down, he's on my lap snuggling. He would rather be held then play. Before I left, if I wiggled my toe, or rolled a toy on the floor he would go after it like crazy. Now, he'll see the toy or object, but doesn't go after it- he'd rather just snuggle with me.

My older cat is the opposite and is playing like a kitten, running all over the place.

Do you think they'll just get over it? I was about to call the vets but I think I'll sound dumb saying "Can I bring in my cats- they switched personalities"

I would take them in instantly if the behavior was grouped with not eating or bathroom issues-- but other than their playfulness/super cuddliness they are acting totally normal.

Do you think it's just stress from us being gone? I think I'm gonna go buy a Feliway refill since mine is out.

Oh, and one more thing- the kitten is teething. Before I left, he had the double canine teeth thing going on and when I got home, only one was left on each side. So I don't know if that's bugging him.

aww I think if it was me I would wait two weeks before I really started to worry. I would spend alittle extra time with the kitten, just being with him and reassuring him, I'm sure he missed you something bad

I would give it some more time. I have one that is clingy if I go out of the house for two hours. Just give him his comfort and Im sure he will adjust soon.

I had to laugh about what you would say to the vet about them switching personalities

Ok, good, I'll just give him time then.

He's the only cat I've ever seen who loves to be held like a baby. I swear I should get one of those baby slings to carry him around the house..lol

Agree with the above, just give him time and reassurance. Six months old is a sensitive age for adolescent kitties. They go through hormonal changes, territorial and personality development begins, and still physically growing. If there are no negative behaviors, they are eating and using the litter normally, then all is great!

Thats how mine is, too.
He will be 6 years old soon and has been like that since a kitten, so be prepared.

Aww
I've only had female cats before- I never knew some boy cats were such snugglebugs!
