AZ's present governor is a woman and I didn't vote for her. I don't like her politics.

Regardless of what genetalia a candidate has, it is what is between the ears that matters.

Canada had a female Prime Minister for a brief period (about 6 months) - Kim Campbell and she was pretty ineffectual. Margaret Thatcher on the other hand was a strong leader!

I wonder if we're going to have a minority president before we have a female one?

I wouldn't mind having Elizabeth Dole for president.

But how many people contracted AIDS because Dole wouldn't have the blood supply tested while she was in charge of the Red Cross?

Mandatory testing went into effect, in 1985. At that time, Ms. Dole was a member of President Reagan's cabinet.

The recent problem with the blood supply happened, long after her tenure, as head of the Red Cross.

Probably the same way they used to react to Maggie Thatcher when she was England's Prime Minister

Quality matters most of all.

If you think about it, it's actually quite scary that the uptight britts (no insult intended) had a Woman as a leader (I greatly admire Thatcher) before us "Liberal" Americans.

.........I also think Elizabeth Dole is an admirable lady and I would support her run for President if she would ever choose to do so.

While I agree a candadate should be judged by merit, stance, and ability I also know that 50% of it is lies or at least "saying what needs to be said". Now the reason i chose "i dont know" is even if a woman, or black, or any minority is lesser of the candatates as far as thier stances on issues i may still vote on them based on breaking the status quo, how many people would not vote because "we've never done that" mentality. Even if they dont agree with everything i believe in, this doesnt mean what they do believe in, or support is wrong (some cases it might). However if opening the door to a position for a minority that i do 100% agree with on thier issues means not voting for a somewhat less than par opponent than i'll do it.

It boils down to if i like somoene 50% and the other person only 65%, i would be inclined to vote for the 50%'r if they were a minority.

I think Oprah should run for President, with Dr. Phil as her VP. Tell me that wouldn't be great??

I'd never vote for a woman just because she is a woman. Just like I won't vote for a democrate just because he/she is a democrat . Or a minority just because.

I think voting for a woman just because she is a woman is sexist, and I think voting for some one because they are a minority just because they are a minority is racist.

I probably wouldnt vote for a woman, even though I am one, unless she was an excellent candidate. Because lets face it, no one would take her seriously.
