Over the river and through the woods...
She passed away peacefully this morning. I got a call yesterday from my aunt (who lives 3 hours away) saying the nursing home didn't think she would make it through the day, so I went up and sat with her for about 2 hours. She didn't seem to be in pain and was just slowly fading away. Although, one time when I was talking to her, her eyes seemed to focus and she kind of cocked her head like "Do I know you....?", so I think she knew I was there. I wish I could have been there when she actually passed but it was 3:30am this morning. It's weird though...I woke up about that time just knowing it had happened. I was actually getting ready to call the nursing home this morning for an update when my uncle called me with the news.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you all for the vibes and prayers. I think they did help her pass peacefully and get her back to my grandfather.

I'm glad your grandmother passed peacefully, and that she's with your grandfather now.

I'm sorry to hear of your grandmother's passing. It does sound as if it was peaceful, and that's a relief, I'm sure. May she rest in peace.

to you and your family.

Thank you so much. Grandma was 93 this past May, so she had a good and long life. And with being in the nursing home for the past 4 years with alzheimers, it was hard for her and for us. So, as bad as it sounds, it is a relief in a way. I miss her like crazy, but I've missed her for the last 4 years because she didn't know who anyone was. I'm just glad she didn't have any major physical problems (ie, cancer, diabetes, etc). It's funny, except for losing her mind, she was probably healthier than I am.

sounds like she went peacefully.
my maternal grandmother died almost 2 years ago. i was staying with her [as were w/several other members of the family] during her last week, & i knew it was imminent... even told my mom that i thought we'd get home & end up turning around & going right back [she & many other family members live 8 hours from us] which is exactly what happened.
we feel that she was really just 'holding on' until after the family Christmas celebration.
unlike your grandmother, this one was fully aware of everyone & everything [pancreatic cancer, no alzheimer's], altho my other [paternal] grandmother had alzheimer's, so i know that feeling, as well.

I'm so glad you were able to be with her awhile -- and I'm sure she did know you were there. Thinking of you and your family, hon...

Hope, I'm so glad that you were able to be with her near the end. I know that you are relieved now that she is at peace and reunited with her love, but I also know that doesn't keep you from feeling the pain of her absence from this earth. Be gentle with yourself in the coming days. I"m sure the kids will be of comfort to you; they know these things.
