It seems as though the contentious nature of the campaign is striking home everywhere.

Archbishop criticizes Obama, Catholic allies

I grew up Catholic and there has been a struggle within the church for awhile. They were losing members especially young people. A lot of people feel that the traditional church is out of touch or focused only abortion.
Andrew Sullivan of the Atlantic has made some good points about the church. To be Pro-life means really being pro-life and not only about abortion but about war, animal welfare, the environment, death penalty...etc. So it would make sense that there would be Catholics supporting Obama.
The points about him being more supportive on issues of poverty and education would create an environment where a pregnant woman had options to help support the baby financially.
We used to groan on Sundays if the old Catholic Irish traditional priest was present because he was SO dry and such a hardliner.
But it also makes sense to have some that would be against.

McCain is for the environment and education and pro-life.

On War, he, more than Obama by light years, knows the danger of going to War.

I'll add one thing to your list: health care. I've always been confused about a candidate who is pro-life, but doesn't fight for health care for everyone in the country. It's almost a position of - get them into the world but don't care for them once they arrive. Pro-life, IMO should include cradle to grave care, and should be inclusive of all of god's creatures.

I think this is one of the reasons why Palin is criticized. She claims to be very much pro-life, but allows shooting wolves from a helicopter. There's a hypocrisy in placing our species above the rest that share the planet with us.

The Catholic Church is totally pro-life. They will stand shoulder to shoulder with conservatives in an anti-abortion rally, and stand shoulder to shoulder with liberals in a death penalty vigil. They have their doctrine they follow. As for voting, it is up to each individual in the Church to decide which political party best fits them, because neither party follows Church doctrine totally.

Oh please. The first paragraph is just ridiculous IMO, yep that is it, because McCain isn't for Universal Health Care, he wants everyone to die.
Since when does the government owe you anything, let alone

cradle to grave care
?

Sure you can go live in a country that the government will take care of everything for you, but you will give up your freedoms.

Secondly, are you honestly, comparing the ripping apart of a human baby while still in the womb to culling a wolf herd? Honestly? Because if you are then I just don't know what to tell you.

Maybe you should go back to your guy Barry and ask him why, if he is so for the people, he would vote against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.
