The vet said he won't prescribe antibiotics prior to the extraction. Is this usually the case or should I demand it? I know when I've had a abcessed tooth pulled, they wouldn't do it until I had been on them.

Getting Spot's teeth pulled but I have a question

When my cat Princess got 5 teeth pulled, her teeth were really bad, she got the antibiotics after the were pulled.
My guess is that the vet wants the majority of the antibiotic treatment done after the surgery, because the risk of infection is highest then. If you start now, you would still need to keep him on them for 1-2 weeks post surgery. If there is no infection in there now, I don't see the point of starting them now.
