The Annual (63rd) Alfred E Smith Charity Dinner in NY is going on.

It is comedy all the way.

McCain and Obama are both there. McCain was HILARIOUS, I laughed my head off. Obama, not so much but he got a few good ones off.

It was heart warming to see them both. McCain said wonderful things about Obama. McCain is great.

Tonight, McCain and Obama attended the Alfred E. Smith dinner. It is a tradition that the speeches are funny, and the 2 of them roasted each other.

Watch them in this order, as McCain went first.

McCain roasting Obama:

And Obama roasting McCain:

There are other you tube videos on the event. Go to youtube and look up Alfred E Smith dinner to find them.

Does this mean that we need to change our reference of BHO to BSO?

it was good, mccain should have been acting like that all along the way
Obama put me to sleep, hard to believe at one point in time, i thought that he was a good public speaker. Obama is to public speaking as i am to spelling.

It was so worth watching, I about died. Such a welcome respite and so bi-partisan, it did my old heart good I tell ya.

But that old dude chewing and eating, I could actually see food in his mouth, I wanted slap him.

It was a good one when Barack officially announced that he was not born in a manger.

Whew, that's good to know.

Barack got some good ones in Bruce. Of course we are going to think "our" guy is funnier, that is just natural I guess.
lol sorry, having a hard time finding much of anything funny.
i guess its the whole tooth pulled and root canal thing, on the same day.
maybe i will be better after sleep.

But obama reminded of the type of teacher in college that would put me to sleep.
naw, how i admit i am for mccain, even back in 2000.
i have said obama has been right a few times :P

And that his middle name is Steve!

I liked the joke about "Barack" was swahili for "That One".

That was fantastic!! What a refreshing change.
I really enjoyed listening to them both, they did an outstanding job and what funny men they both are.

That was exactly the exchange the DH and I had after we watched it. We both liked McCain in 2000 and were rooting for him in the primaries back then.

Actually, I expected McCain to be funnier. Obama is too serious at times and I cringed at the thought of him having to follow McCain. He held his own but missed the delivery once or twice.

So if this were a debate, I'd give it to McCain.

Root canals suck, I only ever had one but I said never again, just pull it and be done with it.

I liked McCain's jabs at the press. Katie Couric looked pained. ha ha

McCain was very, very complimentary of Obama.

I don't think Barack knew what to think, but McCain is just more comfortable at this type of stuff.

Ha ha, Barack said John McCain told him what a nice guy Alfred E. Smith was as they were old buddies back before Prohibition. That was a good one.

McCain said, "some people call Senator Obama, "The One", I call him, "That One", he has a name for me too, he calls me, "George Bush"

Yeah it was a good night.

Oh, that was good! Thank you so much for sharing that. I didn't know a mutual roast was part of the debate tradition.
I just finished watching, it was hilarious

Poor Hillary was laughing so hard I though she was going to pop a gasket
post #15 of 33
It was nice to see a lighter side of Hilary. She was really laughing. I thought they were both funny. It was nice to see McCain laughing instead of scowling. It was nice to see them make fun of themselves too.

Me neither! I had no idea that this was a tradition.

I must say I enjoyed them both about the same. Perhaps a little more for Obama. lol..But not by much.

Hillary was the most entertaining to watch. I have never seen someone besides myself laugh so hard. What was she drinking? lol

I think I am going to Wikipedia this tradition now.

I loved Obama's line, "I got my middle name from someone who never thought I'd run for President!"

I love this dinner. Every four years the mud gets tossed, political bombs go off, screaming and yelling occurs, and then by some hook or crook both parties sit down and make fun of themselves and each other.

No matter who wins on November 4th this dinner is telling. It means that we can laugh at ourselves in the middle of the worst of it.
That had to be the funniest thing I've seen in a while. I think it was good to see both of them showing a funny side.

Here is another goodie. For Momofmany.

The Obama inpersonator is eerily identical to Obama almost and McCain's has his voice down to the "t"

It may be PG

and McCain on Letterman

The scene's from SNL are the ones that they were rehearsing this week for Saturday's show. I hear that "McCain" will not only take a big axe and a scalpel to the budget, he's going to pull out Joe's plunger to do the job.

I wonder if they'll bring in the jokes from the Alfred E. Smith roasts?!?

Saw a great bumper sticker yesterday. It was an Obama sticker with the name "That One" on it. I'm glad that both of them laughed about it!!
I have no doubt neither of them wrote their speeches, but they're so funny! It's great to see them having some fun, and makes me believe they really do have so much respect for each other.

Threads merged.
Those roasts were hysterical! They both had some very good lines, but I think McCain's delivery was better. I actually think that's the first time I've seen Obama really laugh, not just chuckle. He seems so controlled most of the time.

McCain's comments about Bill Clinton were great, and I enjoyed Obama's bit about fathering two African-American children - in wedlock.

Oops, sorry, I thought Cindy's was a different thread

Cindy and I both started threads at the same time last night so those were merged. I'm glad you added one because I didn't have time to find the full speeches.

It just goes to show you - great minds think alike!

So Sarah - why weren't you at the roast last night? Aren't you still running for president?

No, I had cats to trap last night. Barack and John both called me begging me to go, but I said "Hey! Guys! I have priorities you know, just leave it be!"

So I had to wear my gorgeous dress while trapping cats. It was quite the sight you know.

Talking about outfits, Hillary had a lovely outfit on.
That was great. I thought they were both hilarious.

Hilliary laughing so hard made me actually laugh. She was having such a good time.

It was great to see them all so lighthearted. That was genuine laughter.

At the local watering hole tonight, there were a number of folks that had seen these videos. Included was a guy named Jeff and guess what he did for a living? Yup, a plumber. So we got a lot of laughs going about "Jeff the plumber" and what he was going to do to help the economy.

And you know what? When people found out he was a plumber, he got 2 jobs tonight. He's coming over to our house on Sunday to fix our septic tank.

What a little humor can do for the human condition!
