I'm going to see Opeth tonight for the 2nd time and I'm excited!
Last time they were playing with Lamb of God, but I can't remember who is opening for them tonight or even who the other bands are :-/ But anyway, WEEEEEE!

I'm sick of cleaning house though. The boyfriends little brother is going with us and spending the night here so I had to clean the guest bathroom/shower and then once I start cleaning I always get carried away with it LOL. Luckily now I'm just doing a little laundry so I can relax.

I hope you have fun.

For the most part I find Opeth sort of boring, I like Ã…kerfeldt in Bloodbath better.

Awesome! I'm not actually a fan of that kind of music, but my little brother is in a band that plays that kind of stuff. He *loves* Opeth. He has seen them several times.

I've found an American band that is similar to them from Portland called Agalloch. I love them. Their music is so relaxing. It's a little more folky sounding though than Opeth. They have a myspace page http://www.stumbleupon.com/toolbar/#...d%253D27545777 I haven't listened to Akerfeldt's other band. I didn't know he was even in another one! Sadly Lamb of God isn't playing at this one. The other two bands are Baroness and High on Fire. The boyfriend has some of Baroness' music but the other one we've never heard of.

Åkerfeldt's done a few other things. Old Katatonia, comes to mind (a good band for you to check out if you haven't heard them). I'd have to look to see what else he's done as I can't remember at the moment. I think all of the Bloodbath - Resurrection Through Carnage songs are on youtube - it's not like Opeth in that it is pretty much straight death metal.

I've heard one Baroness song that was ok, otherwise it looks like the typical bill a band with 'core stuff. Ick. If they could actually book similar bands together more often people might like shows better instead of skipping openers.

Saw that comment coming a mile away.

I tend to have a favorite per genre, it makes it easier that way...maybe.

Everybody (and by everybody, I mean friends and fans of similar genres
) keeps telling me that I should get into Opeth because they are amazing.

And yet, I cannot! But I am going to see Kamelot and Edguy on Saturday, and Kamelot is my favorite band!

Props to Dream Theater though!

^ I love Kamelot. Definitely my favorite, too. Are you a Conception fan? Roy's voice had a lot higher range back then, which he's lost a bit of now (aging + years of singing does that to a person).

I wish I lived closer to somewhere they toured - the closest is Fort Worth, Texas and that's a long drive.

LOL I love Dream Theater too. We saw them in concert in August of 2007 and they put on a great show. It was my birthday present from my boyfriend

I also like Kamelot. Do you guys like Epica as well? They started out with Kamelot, or at least the lead singer did, Simone Simmons I think is her name. I introduced one of my friends to Epica a while back and here recently he did a google image search for it and then I hear this, "Dang, that woman is HOT!!!" Maybe he'll be a big fan now LOL.

Kamelot was playing in San Antonio sometime this month but the boyfriend didn't want to go because its an hour away plus we'd have to find a place to stay or drive back and then the expensive gas issue
I love Roy's voice. He reminds me of someone that would sing in a musical for some reason. I guess because it's so emotional.

The concert last night was awesome. It was in a small venue so we were pretty close to the stage and it was LOUD. I think Baroness was better than Hell on Fire, but we didn't get in until the last half of Baroness' show. The boyfriend's brother made the comment that the lead singer of Barroness reminded him of the Geico caveman. After he said that I really could see it. I think it was the hair and the eyebrows LOL. I didn't get to bed until 1:30 and drank about 4 16 ounce beers so I ended up sleeping until 10am this morning
. I never want crappy Pabst Blue Ribbon ever again LOL.

He's an opera trained vocalist, if I'm not mistaken.
I can't remember which band it is, it's some power metal band, but the vocalist does make most of his money by singing in musicals.

Epica did not start out with Kamelot - though Kamelot's Epica album was an influence. Originally they were called Sahara Dust and formed by Mark Jansen (former After Forever guitarist - another Dutch female fronted band). They changed names in 2003 after Simone join them. One of the main reasons they're so tied with Kamelot is because she's dating the keyboardist..

And no, I tend not to like a lot of female fronted bands.
