Yes, the spouses of Prime Ministers etc are often involved in charity work etc here too, but they do not use their position of spouse in the same way as the poster I replied to seemed to advocate, you generally see them at openings where you would find any public figure and they don't really have their own following.
When the OP agrees with Michelle Obama allegedly calling out a magazine as being racist she is doing it as part of his campaign and therefore should be seen as an action of the candidate not the personal life of his family which most everyone agrees should and is off limits.
