Yes, the spouses of Prime Ministers etc are often involved in charity work etc here too, but they do not use their position of spouse in the same way as the poster I replied to seemed to advocate, you generally see them at openings where you would find any public figure and they don't really have their own following.

When the OP agrees with Michelle Obama allegedly calling out a magazine as being racist she is doing it as part of his campaign and therefore should be seen as an action of the candidate not the personal life of his family which most everyone agrees should and is off limits.

The OP fell victim to a false report, so that can be left out of the discussion.

U.S. First Ladies are expected to support at least one cause. My memory only goes back as far as JFK and Jackie Kennedy (I was 6 when he was assassinated), but I imagine the tradition extends farther back in history. If McCain is elected, people will expect Cindy McCain to continue her efforts to supply hospitals/clinics in developing countries with urgently needed equipment. If Obama wins, Michelle Obama may very well push for MS research, as her father was diagnosed with MS at around 30, and she's very familiar with the disease, having grown up with it.

Whether or not it is false information, the fact remains that the person I replied to does not have a problem with a first lady lashing out at people in the manner stated in the OP. There is a huge difference IMO (and this is IMO afterall) in supporting a cause and lashing out at people for not supporting your husband.

She's drawn her own conclusions on what others felt while attending a predominately white Ivy League school. Who's to say she hasn't decided to do the same now and speak out to The African Press?

I agree. Even though I dislike Obama, I do not like how she is a bit sarcastic toward him in public. Also, she gives me the impression of being a smart-mouthed, rude person. I don*t like her husband, but I disike HER even more...

Also, the comment about *The 1st time I was ever really, really proud of my country as an adult, is when they nominated my husband, etc.* in mind, is DISGRACEFUL. Fine way for a potential First Lady to talk, huh?

I don't see the significance of this. She is a black woman and she wrote a thesis about black issues. So? What if my ex wrote a thesis about being Italian and the Italian experience would you think the same thing?

She likes stirring the racial pot.

Her thesis didn't support the conclusion she wanted, from the few excerpts I found online, since its now hidden away until after the election. At least part of hers was out there, still looking for "The One's." It's apparently gone the way of the dodo.

Probably because it will be taken out of context and used against her. Why help people smear you?
I don't agree that she likes stirring the pot. I think the people who read too much into a simple sentence like stirring the pot even more.

I agree with you there. He practically hand delivers his own material to the public. He makes it too easy so no one bothers anymore.
