Mrs Obama was angered and she came out loud with the following: “African press International is supposed to support Africans and African-American view,

aww, the racist pops up again.

Oh good! If Obama wins we get another big mouthed first lady. He seems so whipped when she is around. Yet another excellent reason not to vote for her, uh, him.

Sounds like the API article is bogus....well, it is a website based in NORWAY that offers in its archives an announcement (meant in a positive way) for a contest for the stoutest native tribal woman with the biggest "hindquarters"
As for Mrs. Obama, seriously, I wish that someone would get her to dress with more "first-lady" style. I know that it shouldn't be such a big deal, but the First Lady does get judged by her personna, and just by looks alone, both Sarah Palin and Mrs. McCain outshine her. After all, this is an election and everyone needs to do their best to create a good impression.

Michelle Obama just seems so angry all the time. While Cindy McCain seems the epitome of graciousness.

well you know, what can you expect from someone who, only made 300,000 dollars a year, Life must have been really rough trying to live on that.

lol..no she doesn't. Whenever I see her in an interview she's laughing and joking. Maybe you are watching the wrong interviews. She's a funny lady, or perhaps I get her sense of humor better than you.

Maybe she is mad, because her husband plans to tax her more to spread the wealth

I thought family of candidates was off-limits, but I guess since she is an attorney and has been a VP of a university she can take care of herself.

I thought this link I found online about Larry King trying to get her goat was interesting.

Their personal lives are off limits, if they choose to become involved by saying things on behalf of the Obama camp then it is her choice to become involved and therefore open for debate as it is the action of his election camp not 'just his wife'

I agree that once you wade into it you're in it. It does seem like more and more spouses are getting involved in campaigning than there were years ago.

But I don't think that wordpress link is a very good source of info. Anybody can sign up and get a free blog there
http://wordpress.com/signup/
so I wonder if anyone checks the veracity of the blogs or whether you can just post what you want.

Does anyone actually believe this API website? I mean really believe.

I agree. the same could be said about the Huff-Po and the dailykos also.

Personally, I like a first lady who doesn't just sit back, smile, and shut up. Partners of presidents are in a unique position to be heard, and I certainly wouldn't waste it, myself.

Not hardly.
Huffington Post is slanted, but you knwo who you are dealing with since they have an "About Us" page with real names of real human beings.

Same thing with "Dailykos," you might not enjoy reading it if you have a conservative viewpoint, but they also name names of real people contributing to the site.

By contrast, the "Disclaimer" on the "African Press International" wordpress site lists an email address in Norway as a contact, and is using a blog website where anyone can sign up and post whetever they want.

API claims to have been established by the "Rainbow Foundation" (NGO). This may or may not be true, but the "Rainbow Foundation" in turn presents themselves as a social organization and not a news or political organization.
http://rainbowfoundation.wordpress.com/
No names are provided anywhere, and none can be surmised from the contact emails.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but regardless of what you think of "dailykos" it still doesn't make that API site any more reliable.

Yeah, I'm just waiting for its revelation that Obama's stepfather once waited in the same airport lounge as Lee Harvey Oswald.

well, that would be why i said, i want to hear the tape lol,

but how sad is it, that many people seem to think that is indeed something she would say. I know i i can see her saying that

Oh by the way , did you see the big freak out over the ohio state flag and people thinking obama created yet another new american flag?

Personally I think the Wives or Husbands of those running for President should take the lead of those in Canada and keep their traps shut.

The election is not about them, it's about the candidate. The spouses should be seen and not heard.

In that case we should open up the discussion of the behaviour of the candidates family again - I agree with Natalie, they are not elected to a position of power and should take the same role of the Premier / Prime Minister's spouses in Canada.

If we are to believe that Palin's husband is to be looked at for abusing power in Troopergate, the same could be said of Michelle Obama and her behaviour in the past, of which both candidates have said is offlimits as their spouses are not the ones running for POTUS and it should stay that way in my opinion.

I think that was brought out already.

Right before it was brought out that Joe The Plumber is Charles Keating's brother.

Not really. Michelle Obama has nothing to do with her husband's job except campaigning. The two can't really be compared to each other at all. He behaved as if her power extended to himself and tried to exert power in situations.

If they are to be heard, they should also be elected as it reflects on the POTUS when they have a view on something they use their position to air.

Therefore the OP I replied to is saying that Michelle Obama has a right to use the power that is placed in her husband's hands should he become POTUS
post #29 of 41
That wasn't how I read it. It is one thing to make use of the spotlight if you are the spouse of a prominent politician. For example Betty Ford did a lot of good by drawing attention to the fact that alcoholism isn't just a problem of street derelicts, but reaches into wealthy neighborhoods. There is a huge difference between taking up a cause and having access to a government office that your spouse was elected to, not you.

Gotcha.
I thought Laura Bush's work about literacy and education was a good cause. She has such a gentle demeanor that you could see her as a teacher and she seemed to really care. After Hurricane Katrina she was the only shining light from the White House. She brought books to the children and read stories to them. I thought that was wonderful.
But I don't want the partner legislating which is what I think you are saying too.
