I was sorting through boxes of old paperwork today, and found Mischief's adoption papers from the shelter. I was just looking them over, checking the dates and such, and noticed...

HE'S A DOG!!!!

How can I possibly look at this face, and break the news to him that he's a D.O.G.?

That's a really odd mistake to make on a rabies\\shelter document; I wonder if someone has the identical papers for your cat (and theirs is the dog)???

Please don't tell him. He would be scarred with identity issues for the rest of his life, not knowing when to bark or when to meow. He would be confused on the proper tail etiquette - wagging vs twitching. Spanning two cultures and not in either one. Next he will be drinking too much and trying to attack the mailman because that is what dogs are supposed to do.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say that you must tell him. I mean, wouldn't you want to know? If you started to get the urge to doggy paddle, wouldn't you want to know why?

I know it's hard, but he'll thank you in the end (after years of therapy, that is.)

If you don't tell Mischief now, that he is a dog ...
what will you tell him when he is older and asks about his birth parents?

You might want to see a councilor and discuss your options with her....
this is a very touchy issue, you want to get it right.

Bow wow Mischief
