yes, the IP address is traceable. also, was it a free email account [yahoo, gmail, etc.] or one thru their ISP?
i'd file the report ASAP, then go over there [w/some male assistance].

I'm still thinking that the whole thing was actually on the up-and-up, and either something has happened to your cat (got lost, died, whatever), or they have just fallen in love with him and don't want to give him up. Did you give them some money up front?

It was a hotmail account that she used.
I didn't give her any money up front but I did give her a new bag of his food, and litter. I don't think the reason their not talking to me is because he died because I told them when they took him that he's not a very healthy cat, and that if he dies all of a sudden, that I know its not their fault.
I'm thinking that he either got outside and got lost, or they've decided to keep him( which I don't understand because they told me they would only be living here for a year while going to school and that's why they wanted to foster)
Anyways, I'm going to the police as soon as I can and at least ask them what I can do, and show them all my proof. I know that everyone from the vets office would reccognize him too since he was in there all the time, and everyone there loved him.

Do you know what school they go to?
This is really strange.

No, i don't know what school they go to, but my friend would probably be able to see if they are enrolled in any of the school databases.
It does seem very weird why someone would want to steal a cat who has heart and immune problems that will probably only live for another few years or so. Sure he's a Main Coon, but he's neutered so its not like they're going to get any money out of him.
This is all just making me feel so sick to my stomach. I just want my baby back.

I know he does. He would never leave my side. I just hope that I can get him back.
Oh, and I found out what school she goes to, so at least that a step.

Erm.... Try calling the college:

"Hello? This is _____ (woman who stole cat), I am calling to make sure that you have my correct adress since we just moved. Can you go through my records and read the adress to me so I know it is the right one?"

Sneaky, and to some probably wrong, but I would walk barefoot through broken glass to get my cat back. If they ask for a SS # or something just hang up, and try again in a few days. Make sure that your number is blocked too.

Good luck, I will keep you in my prayers.

That is a very good idea. I have no problem being sneaky to try to get him back.Hopefully my friend will be able to get it though. I called again last night and left her another message, but I don't think it'll do any good.

There are phone # sites on the web where, for a small charge, you can get the address listed for that phone...

Simply put their phone # in google search...sites will come up with their offers....
it might be worth a try.
I don't know if it works for cell phones.

Also, libraries often have a reverse directory with phone #'s listed first ----followed by the address.
Call your library and ask if they have one...
again, I don't know about cell phones but there must be some way to track their number.

While the idea of calling to pretend to verify the address seems ok, you won't get the info asking that way! With id theft so bad, they will not just give you the address over the phone. Its reversed. YOU have to give your correct address to them.

I know, I work for the government and when we need updated addresses, we say "hello (name). We are getting returned mail from your address we have on the system - can you verify your address so we can send out your notice?" THEY have to give us their correct address. We might say that we have you listed on such and such street - but that's all we can really say.

My question is WHERE did you do the exchange of the cat/food? I don't understand either, why you did not go to their house to drop off the cat.

The Reverse Directory is a tool that can be used to find and address, for a specific telephone number.
An example....use google search and put in your own area code and phone number...
see what comes up.

Here are a couple on line Reverse Directory sites.
http://www.intelius.com/search-name....7426b79c4c4de8

https://www.peoplelookup.com/people-...9813195a2bc950

There are a lot more sites like the above...
just put their phone number in the google search bar and see what comes up.
These are not perfect. You might not get anything, especially with students...on the other hand, you might.

If you get an address...
you would not call to verify the phone number's address...
I hope that you would go there and knock on the door.

I've tried to read the whole thread carefully, and one thing I didn't see mentioned is contacting local vets (not just yours). If, as you said, he has heart disease and an autoimmune disorder, he will need to see a vet eventually. Take a picture into vets with you, explain the situation, and leave your contact information in case he shows up. Shelters too!

I don't know...something seems odd about this situation. I find it hard to believe that someone would make up such an elaborate story (ie. "We were going to foster from the SPCA) to take a cat? Did you mention in your ad/wherever you advertised your situation that he was a maine coon? I suppose this could be some motivation, but it still seems unlikely to me with all the shelter cats, etc. that are available out there. If, as someone suggested, they just fell in love with him and don't want to give him back...it makes a little more sense...but still...seems unlikely to me.

Perhaps something happened or he got outside. In that case, I would leave a very clear message on the phone saying that it is OK if that happened, you just want to know!

I'm crossing my fingers that this is just a situation of misunderstandings. Perhaps something happened in their lives and they have someone looking after the cat for a couple weeks.

That is a very good idea to call around to the vets in the area. He is prone to lots of infections and usually needs to go to the vets at least every two months. I'm going to call them all tomorrow.
I thinking also that maybe he got away and they are scared to tell me, or that they just fell in love with him and don't want to give him back. I'll try that website and see if I can get anything out of it.
This whole situation is making me sick. I havn't slept in days, and I know that I was stupid not to go to their place first. I'm just so trustful of people and I always get walked all over from it and taken advantage of.
Here's a picture of my little baby. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

What a beautiful kitty.....

Knock on every door on that block....
also before you go,
design a simple flier, have 50 printed with your cats photo, your contact info. and reward offered on the flier. In addition to knocking on all doors....
leave a flier by the doors, staple fliers to polls, posts, bulletin boards in laundry mats, grocery stores and vets offices within a 2 mile radius.
Post fliers at their school.
Get a friend to help you if you can, if not...
do it yourself....asap.

Someone knows where your cat is or what happened.
Good luck.

That's a good idea. I'm taking Monday off work to go to the police station and talk to them about it. I'm pretty sure I have enough evidence that he is my cat and that she has taken him. If they won't help me, I'll be knocking on every door, and peering in every window looking for him. Posting flyers, and calling vet clinics/shelters, ect.
