Im not sure how normal this is - I had a cat for 19 years who was so ridiculously clean so i am not used to this!

I recently got two kittens, from different litters. A boy and a girl. The boy is perfectly groomed, never smelly and very clean. The little lady however, although does clean and groom, seems to be unable to clean her botto9m and therefore constantly smells of poo!!! I have tried praising her everytime she does clean it, I have bathed her to get her to celan herself, I have wiped her bottom with wet cotton wool. But she doesnt seem to be interested!

We were hoping she'd copy the little boy but its been over a month and its not worked

does anyone have any suggestions!

Thanks for reading!

Does the poo get stuck in her fur? Maybe a sanitary shave would help (esp. if she's a longhair).

no she's shorthaired. She just rarely cleans it, she seems to clean everywhere else. I've resorted to a spray of the shower this mornoig, I hate doing it I feel so awful, but I dont knwo what else to do as this is the only time she'll clean properly

How old are your kittens now? Some kitties do take a while to learn how to clean themselves and it can take a little time! Have you noticed if she has loose stools at all? That could be an issue. Also, my cat is a very clean cat, he is longhish haired, but I did notice once that his bottom was a little smelly which wasn't normal and he does sometimes have some little 'clangers' attached
, this time though there was nothing. I kept checking as his botty doesn't normally smell until I realised he had worms which is common in kittens. Could yours have worms or has she been dewormed? If she just isn't washing the area then hopefully, in time, she will learn. Their mum's usually teach them this and in their absence, some kittens take a little longer to learn
