Found Feral Kittens

I came across two kittens in dense shrubbery near the sea about 3k from my house. I had dog food so left it for them to eat. I tried to catch them but they went deep into the low lying brush. As I drove off I saw a large cat about 50 meters away. I figure it's Momma hunting.

Today I went and left a can of cat food and water. At 8 AM they were no where to be found. I went back at 5 and saw the cat food was gone. I called them and they slowly emerged. I gave them another can of food and water and left.

I have to travel in a week for 5 weeks. What do I do?? I cannot catch them with a cage as they are in a protected marine area and if the marine park sees the trap they will most likely confiscate it but locals drive by and will steal it.

I have not seen Mamma for today. What would happen if I took her kittens? What if I cannot get them all, 3?? Sigh

The shelter will not come out to help me...they are overwhelmed and understaffed..I volunteer for them already...

The mother cat certainly will look after them, but she may not have enough sustenance to nourish them all.

Not only that, but if you catch them all now, you can socialise them and adopt them out hopefully, whereas by the time you get back from your trip away, they'll be feral and there won't be anything you can do.

Unfortunately you can only do what you can do. Are there any feral cat rescue groups in your area? Maybe you can call them and ask for help?

Otherwise, when you get back, set some traps, and just stay where you can watch the traps so nobody takes them or gets upset about them being there. Generally if the kitties don't go into the trap within the first hour, they're not going to. Then you can get then neutered and release them and at least prevent more kitties

I buy everything you Sarah say, but not this.

They will still be absolutely possible to foster, especielly as they will still be young.

But it will be harder yes, I do agree. So the easiest way to foster them into pets is catching them now.
