today was Macie's my new puppies first check up at the vet. She got a clean bill of health and her shots. He said not to take her out walking, until her second set of shots. There is Parvo going around, He said she should be protected from the first shot, but he wouldn't chance it. Why don't people care enough about their dogs, to get their shots?. He said every few years there is an outbreak, people rush to get their dogs vacinated. When the outbreak is over, they quit immunizing their dogs

I wholeheartedly agree with your vet! No dog of mine or foster is allowed out in a public place without a full series of distemper/parvo shots. They do not actually have full immunity until they are a week past their 2nd shot, according to my vet.

Thank You for saying that, I had not heard that before. I will definately keep her safe in our fenced back yard.

I've held lots of doggies while they are euthanized due to parvo at the shelter. The owners for whatever reason didn't spend the $30 for 2 shots - and the puppy/dog died because of that. Parvo is a horrible thing & while some dogs/pups do survive, some do not.....so I prefer to be annoying & irritate people by telling them about distemper/parvo shots than risk them not knowing.
