Has mange so bad it's sad

She belongs to a mentally disabled woman who can't really afford to take care of her. The poor thing is tied up in her yard and has no shelter from the elements except to go under the porch. The other day she asked us if we could help her with the dog.
Apparently she loves the dog to pieces but can't do anything for her.

Well, I called the SPCA and they said there isn't anything they could do for her except to take the dog.
I didn't provide any information about her whereabouts.

So I'm faced with do I tell them where the dog is so it gets medical attention and gets taken from my neighbor? Or do I leave it alone?

My heart is telling me to tell them about the dog

Mange won't get better without medical attention. I think the dog needs to be gotten out of there before the mange has the chance to get any worse.

Unfortuntately, Natalie is right. You have to choose between your feelings for the woman and the care of the animal - I would have to go with the latter. But just because she's "challenged" doesnt mean she can't be taught how to properly care for her dog. Maybe the SPCA can help with that.

I agree the poor dog is just going to get worse it's sad that she can't take care of the animal herself but the poor dog is the one that's suffering so I would call SPCA and tell them the situation and where it is

Are there no groups around to possibly help her? I know in some areas there are for people who are mentally disable or elderly (providing they aren't wanting to keep massive amounts of animals). Chances are if the dog is neglected she may need help taking care of other things in her life, too.

I would go to the lady and explain that since she can't take care of it, she should let the ASPCA take care of it. Explain to her that the dog is suffering and that this would be a very loving thing that she could do.

I agree with everyone..... I think I'll call the SPCA tomorrow

I've tried to explain this to her but she just doesn't seem to comprehend what I'm saying... or she's just too stubborn to listen
