Are any of you planning to get a flu shot this year?

I'm planning to go tomorrow to get my flu and possibly pnemonia vaccine as well. The Walgreens near my house is offering them, so I am planning to go ahead and get vaccinated. I've got several medical conditions that can be made a good deal worse if I do get influenza so i'm going to go ahead with the flu shot to try and reduce my chances of getting it.

Anyone else planning to get vaccinated this year? I've never had the pnemonia vaccine before, so this will be my first time getting that one.....I am prone to getting pnemonia and have had it multiple times in the past so i'm hoping the vaccine helps reduce my odds of getting it a bit! Any of you ever had that one before? (i've heard it's good for several years? Anyone know?)

For those of you that live in the South, Walgreens and Kroger are both offering the vaccines in certain stores. You can check their websites and see when they have them.

I will be getting my flu shot when I see my doctor of Nov5th, I have gotten one every year for the last several and have found them very effective.

Yup. My husband's company offers them to all of their employees and their families. They are HVAC installers, and work mainly in restaurants so they are constantly exposed to the public (most of whom don't have the sense to stay home when they're sick), and sick days for their technicians means lost money to the company. Getting everyone a flu shot is a small investment for that kind of return rate.

When I worked for the city last year, they offered them at a discount for all the city employees too i'm pretty sure for the same reason!

My employer is giving out flu vaccines to employees for $10 and for their family members for $20. Neither Rob nor I plan on getting it though. I never have and dont plan to any time soon.

Nope, not going to get one. Those shots are not effective against all strains of flu so they are not totally foolproof. I did get it once, but that was four years ago.

Since I just had surgery - certainly not anytime so, and probably unlikely anyways. I don't know what caused my nervous system issues and don't want to risk myself by getting vaccinations that I've never had. Just my luck I would have a bad reaction.
Besides, I have wonky liver tests to sort out over the next few weeks/months.

Oh, and if I've read correctly the CDC declared last year's flu vaccine a failure.

Yeah, on the 22nd, at work.

Anyone know how the vaccine is matching up with this year's flu?

I get one every year. It is important because these days I am primary care giver to my highly suseptible elderly mother. I have to find out if she's due for her pneumo-vax. My brother's a doctor. He said the p-vax won't prevent pneu, but increases the likelihood that if she gets it, she won't die from it. Sounds worth it to me.

Just thinking (a bit slowly today
), since you've never had the pneumonia vaccine maybe you should consider holding off until you've talked to a specialist? (you mentioned being referred to a dys specialist iirc?) Some prefer their patients have them, others don't for various reason. There's a small chance you'll respond differently to it then the flu vaccine - possibly adversely.

Yup, both of us. As many different dr's offices as we are in every day, it's a smart thing, lol! I've never had the pneumonia vaccine, had never had pneumonia until this spring when I had it twice in a month's time, so think I'll be getting it too!!

Nuh uh...might give me away!
Nope. I haven't had one in...well, I can't remember. If I ever had one as a child, I was really young. But I also have only had the flu once since I was 9 and that was a couple of years ago.

When I get it two years in a row, I'll start. Until then, my immune systems been kicking butt.
I'll let someone more deserving get mine.

Funny you post this. I'm getting mine tomorrow morning at my Dr's appointment. I've never had one before but since I might not be insured after February (still flu season then), due to unemployment, I might as well take precaution so I don't end up in the hospital with a hefty bill. I'm also getting blood drawn. BOOOOO! Anyone ever gotten sick from getting the shot or felt a little bad afterwards? Or no big deal for me to worry about?
