^ Get another topper off overstocked.com and make sure to put a cover over it. DH and I have unfortunately spilled drinks and soup in bed (I can't always get out of bed to eat) and that's kept our topper from being ruined. Anyone who's a klutz, owns pets, or has allergies/asthma should use a cover anyways.

In general though, those toppers help but you need a good bed under them.

I don't know about 10" mattresses but I was sitting on some that had to have been a foot thick or more the other day - with pillow tops though.
Go to a furniture store and ask, take a tape measure in case they don't know and don't mind you measuring the beds.

In the snow!!!!
When hubby and I were looking for mattresses, we actually found one that was over 15" thick. When you get over a certain height of mattress, you actually need special sheets to fit it which is kind of a pain. We ended up with a nice mattress that didn't require special sheets.

^Or stairs to get into.
Depending on where one lives, maybe chrome side rails would be appropriate for the over sized beds. (don't mind me, I think I've officially lost my mind tonight)

Around $900 for a decent bed is about right. It's what DH and I are expecting when we buy a new bed sometime this week. Speaking of that, I need to get together so we can go by the other furniture store this morning!
