However, are you saying that someone who says it doesn't matter if the “N†is elected because he will just get assassinated and then a white guy will be President is the same as speculating if either candidate should die during office how their VP candidate would be as President?
Would you justify someone saying “it doesn't matter if the womanizing pig gets elected because he will just get assassinated and then a woman will finally be President†?
Such racist or sexist statements are nowhere near the same as evaluating the potential of a VP candidate as being President should the worst happen and the President should die. The man in the post office was not speculating on Biden's ability to be President. He was an outright racist that fervently believed that Obama should and will be assassinated because he is black and he dared run for President.
Any acceptance of the probability of a Presidential candidate being assassinated should ring serious warning bells in our society. There is a big difference between murder and death or mental incapacitation due natural causes associated with age.
You don't think encouragement emboldens people? How many times in this country have crimes been committed because people were egged on by others. The out of control mob mentality. How many times has a crime been committed because someone thought their idol shared their beliefs?
Not refuting lies comes off as condoning them and it reflects badly on any candidate who does so. McCain obviously recognized this and spoke out, as he should have IMO.
I honestly don't get the McCain supporters being upset that McCain is being given credit for maintaining his integrity.
When I refer to consequences I think more of the possibility of a race war being ignited in this country. Whether that happens with any black candidate, or more so with BO because of the view many hold that he is racist/muslim/etc, I can't say. A segment of the current population will always be against having a black person in office, however I believe that BO significantly increases that number.
Perhaps it is just me, but I have no doubt that somewhere in this world terrorists are plotting to again strike our country. But I also think it is likely that somewhere in this country people are plotting to assassinate BO should he become president. I don't condone it, but I'm not going to pretend it could never happen so as not to embolden anyone. I assure you I have no desire to have *the white guy* as president either, and if the third person in the current line of succession takes office... I may just shoot myself.
I admire John McCain for addressing these comments at his events, however I don't believe he or Sarah Palin are primarily responsible for causing them in the first place. Racists were racists long before this campaign started. Whether at work or not, saying "that comment offends me" seems like an appropriate response, if you are truly offended.
