Yesterday I noticed Chloe's glands were swollen. I thought it was weird but then checked the other side of her face and it was about the same so I figured it was something I just never noticed before and didn't say anything about it. Well, a few hours later my SO asked me if I noticed Chloe's glands being swollen. At that point one side was much worse than the other.

Everything else seems normal (litterbox, eating, drinking, playing, sleeping). She's a healthy cat as far as I can tell. She's 1 year old. As long as we've had her, she's always had awful breath but that's the only issue.

Is this worth seeing an emergency vet over? (Vet isn't open until Monday and I don't know how soon I could get her in).

Anyone else's cat have this? I've done a little google research and am not sure what to think.

I talked to my vet office this morning and have an appointment on Wednesday for her. Hopefully it's just some sort of infection that can be treated with antibiotics.

I am a little worried about her having FIV. She tested negative for it when she was 14 weeks old (at least we think she was 14 weeks old). I read that you can get a false negative 8-12 weeks after infection and sometimes even longer. She was a stray kitten that was found at 4 weeks old. I don't think she was infected by another cat, but I do think it's possible that her mom passed it on to her (feral cats are much more likely to have FIV).

The only other thing (aside from an infection or FIV) is lymphoma which is just not likely at all considering she is only 1.

I'm sorry to hear abt your cat.My cat Frankie is also facing the same thing. The left side of his face is more swollen than the right side. I brought him to the vet 4 days ago as he was swelling and had almost high fever. He lost his appetite and he was resting the whole day till i brought him to the vet but they couldn't find anything wrong with him. They prescribed him some medicine to make the fever go down with Antibiotics and it has gone down after 3 days. Now the swelling and the fever is back. Am so worried about him. Have arranged an appointment with the vet tomorrow. I have read it could be anything, from Abscess(he is an indoor cat and my other kitten is not violent towards him though they have play fights) Inflammed salivary glands to cancer........Im really hoping it's just an infection.

Update:
I took her to the vet after I posted this and the vet said that it could be from anything and it's really hard to pinpoint it. She said that it's usually something going on in the head area. She's not an outdoor kitty but she loves to spend time in our basement with all the bugs. There isn't any cleaning solution she could have gotten into, but who knows what bugs we have down there. I'm also worried because she got in the garage once and we had a mouse in there. I know she didn't get the mouse but maybe mouse poop?

She has a follow up appointment on the 21st and she said that if they are still swollen by then, that we are going to re-test her for Feluk/FIV.

One side is still very much swollen, but the other side went down.

Bedhead - that is scary, I hope your kitty is ok! It sounds more serious than what Chloe is dealing with, as she is acting normal and has no fever and it's not really facial swelling, just lymph nodes.
