My former cat (first one) would never deign to eat anything dropped on the floor--although she might sniff it. My current guy (age 5) is well fed and always has food available, but is constantly looking for anything on the floor to eat or chew. Several times he's had coughing spells that I think result from things he's injested because I found that he'd regurgitated some pieces from my dried flowers at one point. Recently I found a piece of packing foam all chewed up. I try to be very careful, but it's easy to miss things that he can find.

Shouldn't he have outgrown this behavior? I worry that he will cause himself harm. Is there any way to get him to stop doing this?

I have one who only eats cat food (Kitty) and Holly will eat anything!
Me too! Monster will not eat anything that isnt cat food. he will act like he is interested in whatever anyone happens to be eating, but if you offer him a piece of chicken or something he will not eat it. Mittens will eat anything, even if it isnt food.
