Canadian Broadcaster Apologizes for Palin Slur

Monday, September 29, 2008 2:27 PM

By: Tim Collie Article Font Size

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. apologized Sunday for a column posted on its Web site that likened Sarah Palin to a porn star, described her husband as a roughneck and suggested her oldest son was terrified about serving in Iraq.

The column by Heather Mallick, a left-wing journalist who has said the United States will one day invade Canada for its resources, was “viciously personal, grossly hyperbolic and intensely partisan,†CBC News Publisher John Cruickshank said.

That is so cool.

What's wrong with being a roughneck? That's like a badge of honor around these parts

Since he worked in the oil fields, I think he technically IS a roughneck, right?

I really didn't appreciate being called "white trash" either, as she said that was the voter base that Palin appealed to.

I think the term is more about skill level than the actual job. We've got roughnecks around here in the logging industry, tobacco farming, and limestone mining.

I just know that if you told them they were being insulted when they are called roughnecks, you'd get quite a good laugh out of them.

Yeah thats a new one, usually the elistists call us "rednecks" which I really don't mind. I'm not sure why being a hard-working, middle class American (the Republican base) makes you "trash".

I've read that one several times, and keep ending up with a question. Is he apologizing for what he said, or merely for the way he said it? Because he seems to maintain the same opinion even while apologizing.

Good question, but I'm still trying to decide how insulting "Sarah Palin 'don't care too much'" is supposed to be.
