My friend found a kitten in the woods and she has a pitbull so she couldn't keep him. I told her I'd take him in until we figured out what to do. He looks to be about 5 weeks old...he has all of the teeth on top and on the bottom. He also has teeth in the back, just space in between the fangs and the teeth in the back.

The problem is that I've seen white rice grain looking things around his butt. I pull them off and throw them away, there's been two in the past hour. I looked it up and they seem to be tapeworm segments. This has got me freaking out because I have ocd and the kitten sleeps with me every night.

I just got fired today to make the situation worse so I can't take him to the vet. Is there a way to treat him at home with something over the counter? I may be able to borrow some money to get that. I read that most over the counter dewormers for tapeworms don't work but what about TradeWinds Tape Worm Tabs For Cats? I read that they're about $20 which I really can't afford but I need the peace of mind.

I would take him to a shelter to be rehomed but I'm afraid of what will happen to him.

What should I do?

First of all....Welcome to TCS!

Secondly, sorry I am unable to advise you...have you thought of posting a thread about your kitten's tapeworm in the Health and Nutrition forum? Plenty of members will help you there

Don't worry, we don't bite!

Hi, welcome to the site!
Congratulations on your new addition to your family!
Your kitty has tape worms, not at all uncommon. They are caused by fleas, so your little one needs to be treated for both tape worms and fleas. Please take your kitty to the Vet for treatment. Over the counter medications are not as trustworthy as those you can get from your Vet, and your precious little one needs to become established at a Vet anyway, so that he can have his kitten check-up and begin immunizations. Many Vets will work with you to find a payment plan that suits your budget.
