True, however, it affects very FEW people and my mom was one of them. She was extra sensitive and allergic to many meds so this is why her case is so unique.

I haven't heard from Patient Relations yet about documentation so hopefully I'll hear something by tomorrow. I know that one way or another I will feel better knowing I did do something about it and I hope that they will learn from their mistakes.

I just couldn't sit idle and let her death be in vain. If you don't stand up for what you believe in, what do you have left to fight for?

I bet it's a lot less rare then we think... but most families probably don't speak up or do anything about it.

If there's not a support group near you that you could turn to, have you considered forming one?

The area I live in isn't very large so I'm not sure there is one. I wouldn't even know where to begin with one!

I could probably research on the internet, but most of the support groups I do know about are with the hospital. The last thing I need right now.

I agree you need break from hospital related dealings - What I meant by area is within a 100 to 150 mile radius.

Once again, I am really sorry about your mom. I would bring with you a sheet of bullet points, things you want to go over. Your main points, you don't have to use it, but can if you need to at some point. Also, bring a tape recorder and use it. Some phones let you record, that way they won't even know. Or you can tell them. This is YOUR meeting, may the thoughts of your mom give you the courage you need, just by having this meeting in the first place, you are standing up for her.

I had a dream last night that I took a chemistry test and failed. I even dreamed waking up the next morning and realizing I did. When I really woke up, I realized it was all a dream. I haven't been in school for 3 years now and I wonder if this has something to do with my meeting on thurs. Maybe I'm afraid that no matter what I do, I will fail.

Oh gosh, we all have those dreams. Sometimes I have one where I'm registered for a class all semester and don't find out about it until the final test is handed to me. And the ones where I can't find the classrooms I'm supposed to be in. And the school cafeteria where all the food has the texture of overcooked liver... And the classic naked in front of the class dream.

It's just your insecurities working themselves out. Believe me, those doctors want to be at that meeting even less than you do. *hugs*

I absolutely agree with Cococat...bullet points typed out for you to read from/refer to, your own tape recorder...and as several others (sorry don't recall who in this thread) suggested, consulting a wrongful death attorney would help you be sure you pursue this is the most beneficial way (by beneficial I mean re getting the results you want - admission of guilt, apology and whatever else you want).

Sending you support and many

I am actually paying a monthly fee for prepaid legal, which is dealing with any situation where you may need a lawyer. I had signed up for it to do a will, however, I will call in the morning to see if anyone can give me any advice on short notice.

If worse comes to worse, I will ask PR to see if it is ok with the doctors for me to tape record the meeting just so I have something in my records.

Sending vibes that you are inspired during the meeting and that your efforts make a major improvement in how patients are treated at that hospital

Recorders are not allowed and they won't give me a formal copy of their report. I can take my own notes. I just talked to an attorney and he said if it is on their premises, I have to follow their policy.

Depending on how the meeting goes and what they find, if I think there is enough evidence of malpractice, I can get an attorney to get the formal report and see what he thinks.

I don't hold much faith at this point just because they will not provide any kind of documentation. I'm starting to really hate this hospital.
