A Complete Blood Count will not tell you anything about diabetes or hypoglycemia. For that you need a blood glucose test. If the initial blood glucose is too high or too low the doctor may want you to have a glucose tolerance test. That is actually a series of tests. You get the baseline, then they give you a drink that is almost pure sugar
and recheck the blood levels every hour for three hours. That will give you an idea of how your body is processing the sugar.

It depends on what they're testing for - whether a person potentially has diabetes or hypoglycemia. Glucose tolerance test is not used to test for hypoglycemia.

You're right. GTT is a tool for diagnosing diabetes. Hypoglycemia is diagnosed mostly by history of symptoms along with a single blood glucose test rather than the series.

There are a number of websites that cover the topic. This one gives good general information with links to more detailed sites.

The *whispers* pregnancy *normal voice* is also a possibility.

Hmm, I love weird food, but thats way out there! Maybe I will have to try the cheese thing. Pickles and cheese is yummy.

Late night snacking just means you need a full belly to sleep better. Maybe you need some vitamin? eating right before bed gives me weird dreams.

How interesting.
I am like this too, minus the meat - well fish is a frequent favorite and free range eggs from a neighbor too, I drink 1% organic milk if I ever do drink milk with organic PB and eat yogurt but never drink coffee. My diet is heavily plant -nuts, seeds, fruit, and veg- based but I do consume brown rice and whole wheat pancakes, I also eat beans often and soy. I also make organic bread with very few ingredients, honey being one of them, also flaxseed oil. Do you eat anything like this? I feel it will balance out your diet, go talk with a qualified nutritionist or dietitan about your diet and the importance of certain ingredients. Any make you feel full for long time carbs in the form of grains -whole wheat, quinoa, barley, millet, spelt, etc.-in your diet on a constant basis?
What were you eating before this diet? What made you change?

It is funny, I have been doing this a very long time and many people think I am missing out but I never feel as if I am on a diet, this is my choice. I am eating to LIVE, and eating a lot, and eating good and feeling great, not to mention lowering my risk for heart attacks, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and so much more. I am always comfortable, never on empty, and the foods I eat give me proper fuel and help me live a better healthier life. Eating olive oil, avocados, and nuts, it isn't the fat per say, but the type of fat and portions. For instance, eating fat free processed and trans fat cookie bars is not better for you than eating an avocado or small handful of nuts. It is about so much more than just total fat or calories when it comes to whole foods. Off of my soapbox now about food.

Wow you remembered that? And I didn't even send you a list of my health problems (like I did to Sharky).

I dunno, I eat all the fresh fruit that I want, and will have a spoonful of honey now and then. I don't feel sugar-deprived. I'll talk to my doctor in the Spring unless it gets worse before then. Thanks.

I'll have to dig up the test results from last time; I know he ordered extra tests (including free T3 and T4), and he is a good doctor and was confident that I was not pre-diabetes... I didn't drink any kind of sugar drink, I think that would make me very sick.

I had a few peanuts and a boiled egg last night about an hour before bed and didn't wake up craving the juice. I probably need to do that since I eat a light dinner because I need to eat every couple of hours (but not a lot at one time).

I'm sorry, I left out that I eat all kinds of beans, oats, and also potatoes. I tend to count them as vegetables.
Once in a while I will have a slice of sprouted grain (no flour) bread, or some brown rice, or some whole wheat pasta. I used to eat all the whole grains you listed but after I stopped being a vegetarian (I was ovo-lacto for 19 years) I kind of got away from eating so many whole grains.

Before this diet I ate basically the same except for some convenience foods. I'd have bread sometimes, some jam with sugar in it, and sometimes white rice or white pasta, and sometimes chocolate, etc. A year ago I tightened up everything and make it all from scratch. I am in the kitchen all the time, it seems, washing, slicing, chopping, peeling, simmering... I even make our mayonnaise.

My motivation to eat this way is to stay alive as long as possible while living with my health issues, and to minimize their symptoms.

It's nice to meet like-minded people. Let's share recipes.

Spring? That seems an awful long ways away - though it seems like I'm getting blood taken all the time anymore...
As for how I can remembered stuff, I'm good with details... I just tend to forget other important things. My cats would starve if they weren't capable of reminding me to feed them.

And EWW! Egg before bed!
That would have me awake an hour or two later going
but then I have problems with eggs for some reason.
We all get to craving stuff at odd times though, sometimes all it takes is someone mentioning a food. I went and bought a turtle cheesecake today because I won't be able to eat anything like that for around a month - maybe longer.

For the last few weeks, I've been waking up at night wanting something sweet. Last night I ate a peach!

I'm not pre-diabetes and don't have diabetes, in fact my Complete Blood Count is excellent.

My mother used to (don't know if she still does) wake up at night and sleep-eat cake and candy. But I'm not asleep (and I don't eat refined sugar) but I'm also craving something sweet.

I have been dealing with a lot lately, and more stress than usual. I guess it's not that bad but I have to brush my teeth after.

Anybody have a similar experience?
So funny I just googled, waking up in the middle of the night acheing for something sweet to eat or drink. Last night once again I woke up at 330am, ran to the fridge and finished a box of Berries in literly 60 seconds. I felt like a Vampire eating to survive. After eating the Berries I felt relived and ready for some sleep.

Anyway very odd, maybe just the stress of life.......................x
