Who is the best Captain? What show was the best? What irks you about the technical stuff they got wrong? Bloopers, gotta have bloopers. Come, play in this thread and discuss. Calling all geeks...

Of the above for me Picard, best Captain, I also like Janeway, men hated her, to bit...foir them I suppose.
A question almost asked more than why there are no bathrooms on the bridge (ther is one, they just dont mention it, i have, well had, a huge poster of the layout of NCC1701D) is why they have not solved bald yet. I think Patrick Stewart is just as sexy as sexy can be, and would NOT look good with hair, but really, you can travel at light speed but cant make hair grow?

Well, I do have a soft spot for Kirk, but I think Picard was by far the best Captain. Janeway wan't too bad once she loosened up. The first season she was really "stiff" and dictorial.

I'm not really all that technical, so I really can't discuss that aspect of it so far as bloopers are concerned.

Here is a link to some of the bloopers:

Heh, I've never actually watched Star Trek so I don't know the characters very well, but I play in a music group here in town that plays only movie and tv scores and guess what our upcoming concert is? Star Trek! I think they're going to post our recordings online for people all over to listen to, just to kind of get our name out there. I'll let you guys know when it's up so you can all go have a listen

I have to go find a Star Trek costume for the concert. The conductor is making all of us dress up like trekkies, and another girl in the group made everyone communicators to wear. It should be fun!

I'd say it's a toss-up between Picard and Janeway. I also liked Archer, but I think that was more because I like Scott Bakula than because I thought Archer was a good captain.

Now, if you'd asked who was the worst captain, I would have had no trouble at all deciding.

Would that be Kirk? Aw, I like him, but he was really a bad captain if you ask me, which no one did but I dont care, lol. Too randy, too "cowboy", but that was the era that it was made in. The original Trek broke a lot of "rules" of TV at the time, just with the cast alone. A Russian, Asian (sp?) (no one new he was gay, just imagine if he was out of the closet then!) a black woman, oh dear, no wonder it got cancled!
I was a bit of a Trek snob, whn it was announced a NEW Trek was coming out (Next Generation) I watched the first one to mostly make fun of it. It was a pretty bad show till they got their footing, then, I was hooked, and it is my favorite Trek show. Picard is da man! Soooooo sexy, so cool, and that voice, oh dear I could live in that voice, *giggle* A lot of people didn't like that he actually ASKED his crew for sugggestions when facing a crisis, instead of just relying on a single Vulcan to direct him to what was best course of action.
Speaking of vulcans, Spock is one of my favorite characters. Data is my all time fave, though he is dead now (his character, not Brent though they left the door open with B4) Scotty aka James Doohan, second fave, I drank something green the day he died. My brother asked where his apple shnapps went, I told him, he shook his head and laughed. Spock I already mentioned, but he was classic cool. I loved the episode where Data and Spock met in TNG, that was almost orgasmic for a trekker. The one with Scotty I found a little depressing.
I have ALL classic and TNG episodes on VHS! WHat a thing to be proud of, lol. Trivia question for all you geeks, no googling now! What was the name of the last episode of the original Trek, and the name of the TNG episode that hit that number of shows, and, what was that number?

For me it was Captain Archer from Enterprise...I like Picard, and Janeway also. I never really liked Kirk to much and Captain Sisco from Deep Space Nine comes in last..
In fact I didn't watch Deep Space Nine at all just never got interested in it..

As for the shows themselves I would list them as

Enterprise
Voyager
Star Trek TNG
Star Trek
Deep Space Nine..

Movie Wise I rank them as follows..

Nemesis
Insurrection
The Final Frontier
The Undiscovered Country
First Contact
Generations.
The Search For Spock
Wrath of Khan
Star Trek The Motion Picture
The Voyage Home

Favorite Supporting Characters.
T'Pol, Tucker and Yoshi from Enterprise.
Worf and Data From TNG
Tuvok and Seven from Voyager...

Kirk. Yep, that's the one. Worst starship captain of all time. I didn't watch the original Star Trek when it was first on because we didn't have a functioning TV in the house at the time. I caught up with the reruns several years later when I was in grad school. By that time I was old enough that it irritated me that Kirk hit on every female--of every species--he came across.

My favorites from the original are Scotty, Bones, and Uhura, although she didn't get enough air time.

I was living in Austria when TNG came out and missed the entire first season. When I moved back to the states I was visiting my parents. My dad turned on the TV to watch something else and we caught the last minute of TNG. I kept saying, "This looks and sounds almost like Star Trek, but not quite right." I was pleasantly surprised when the credits rolled at the end to discover that there was a new Star Trek show.

That's how it was for DH & me; we had very low expectations for TNG. He and I were pleasantly surprised, and I consider TNG the best Trek and Picard, without a doubt, the best captain. Loved Data, loved Riker (once he grew that beard), loved Troi's Mom ( I know I'd spell her name wrong if I tried---Lwaxana?; she was the best!) Really liked Q, too.

From the original Trek, I'd have to say Capt. Pike was much better than Kirk. Too bad Jeffrey Hunter didn't get the role in the series. Loved Bones & Scotty, hated Chekov (altho' when Walter Koening was in Babylon 5 I loved his character!).

Hated Deep Space 9, hated Voyager (except for the Dr.), didn't care much for Enterprise.

Speaking of Enterprise, my favorite version of the starship Enterprise was the 1701-D, from TNG. Awesome looking ship.

kirk was the best and coolest of the captians, how i liked the TNG and her captian, that was about the only person on the show i liked. I hated the kids, and most of the crew.

deep space nine, and Voyager, did not care to much for, i would sometimes watch voyagar but deep space nine to me was just bad.

i kinda liked enterprise,

I liked Enterprise, I thought it was a brave idea to go "pre-quel" like that. I liked the engineer guy on that (he pops up on Stargate Atlantis too).
Voyager and TNG I also really liked at the time. I guess the only ones I didn't get into were DS9 and the original series.
I enjoyed all the movies from about 1984 on!
Guess I'm a Trekkie, just not into trivia.
Hated the kids on TNG too, and the total cheese of it all during the first season!
The Borg are my fave villians, and those aliens in Voyager that kicked the Borg's asses-species 749 or something. They could've been great villians, but they ruined it by making them care about humans.

Jean Luc Piacard wins hands down.
I loved Commander Ryker also as a First Officer, but Spock was great too.

I just like the crew of Next Generation much, much better.

I watched them all, but not Voyager as much. I don't know, it just didn't seem right have a woman Captain of the Enterprise. Don't flame me now.

I loved Deep Space Nine, it was good. Sisco was a good Captain, even though he didn't like Captain Picard. He blamed Captain Picard for his wife's death, it happened when Captain Picard was Locutus of Borg.

Wow, Trillcat, someone more geeky in Star Trek Lore than I!
I'm sure I will know the name of the episode once you state it, but I don't know it off the top of my head.

Did you notice that for the first couple of years of TNG that you could trace every story line back to a story from the original?

Jean-Luc was probably the best captain, but I REALLY liked Janeway. Both TNG and Voyager had amazing use of the holodeck. Didn't anyone like the doctor from Voyager? He was my fave!

i find him very annoying to watch.

kirk was still way cooler then any of the others, and janeway, was the worse.

I won't flame you for that, just
lol
Why does a woman as captain seem wrong? She was not the nicest person, but as in life women sometimes have to be a B to be in charge of things. I never really liked Voyager though, I consider it the Gilligans Island of Trek.
No one on the trivia question yet? Ok I will give an easier one, what TNG episode shares a similar name, and "drunk" characters as the original?
Hint for the original trivia question, Tasha Yar's sister was in the TNG episode, Data liked her.
