I always seem to end up finding a nickname for my cats that take after either another animal or thing. For example, back home I had two cats, Oliver (a golden bipolar tabby) had a habit of wrapping his arms around your arm and bite (hard enough to hurt but not draw blood) and not let go, so I would call him "viper". My other cat, yoda, (another golden tabby, this one a true scary cat) would pull back his head and then snap fast at your nose when he had had enough, for some reason this reminded me of the snapdragons, so that was my nickname for him. Now mai sai loves to carry his toys around in his mouth, his first toy was the head off a cotton snowman (about the size of a cotton ball) and I swear it looked just like a small egg before he dragged it around enough to make it gray, so my nickname for him is mongoose.

Does anyone else do this? Did you name your cat after a nickname? lol am I the only one crazy enough to call my animals by another animal?

well, Firefox is the only one w/an 'official' nickname - she's called 'Puter Bug.
the others [& her, as well] have multiple 'pet' names, but those change around pretty frequently.

Yes my Renzo the runty is called Chunk. He is so little and round that I just started saying where's Chunk? He is my chunk of love.

When Cleo was urinating in the house we called him Pee-o. Uhoh Pee-o struck again. He kind of seemed to know it because he would dart off sheepishly.

Mine too have nicknames, but they're derivations on their "given" names, except for Lucy:

"Bullwinkle J. Moose" is Moose, Meeshka Mooshka & Mister Moose
"Rocket J. Squirrel" is Rocky or Rocket J. & My Squirrel,
"Lucy" is Lucy Lu, Missy Lucy Lu, Little Lucy Lu, Little Pet Shop Girl (that's where I found her), Miss One Orange Foot (she's got one), Missy Kitty & Missy.

For some reason Lucy ended up with the most pseudonyms.

You can find me at Disneyland!!!!
No. You are NOT crazy.

I have 2 cockatiels and 2 cats, and my sister and I gave all 4 of them nicknames that are animals other than the animal they are.

Because my birds, Kodiak (Kodi) and Dakoda (Koda), have bear names we call them "Cubs". When they are in bad moods we call them "Grizzly Bears". Their cages are called "Dens". When they are sleeping, we say they are 'Hibernating" etc.

Kodi also has the nick name of "Bug" because he HAS to be in the middle of everything. Koda has the nickname of "Ladybug"

My cats, Ripley and Cali, are called "Cougars". Ripley also has the nickname of "Puppy" because she acts just like a dog sometimes. She LOVES to play with balls and follows people around everywhere. When she sits in the front bay window (which she does alot), we sing to her "How mich is that puppy in the window?". My sister always says "She's NOT for sale. She already has a home".

Cali has the nickname of Meercat because when she gets up on her hindlegs she looks just like a meerkat. When she sits on the landing of the stairs, we say "Is our meercat watching over her mannor". This is after the ANIMAL PLANET show MEERKAT MANOR.

Its nice to know that my sister and I arent the only crazy people who have other animal names for their "critters".

Nope! You're not the only "crazy" one!

Maverick's nickname is "Blabs" b/c he's the talker of the bunch.

Geronimo is "Hooties" b/c he's such a hoot!

Winchester is "Evil Knevil" b/c he used to be such a daredevil.

Spencer is "Half Baked" or "Forrest Gump" b/c he's not all there.

Gabriel is "Nubbins" or "Nubs" b/c he gets that 'nubby' fur.

Salem is "Stubby" b/c she has only half a tail.

Jinx is "Bambi" b/c she has a short little tail like a deer, and she also has such long back legs.

I haven't come up with a nickname yet for Ricochet, Cassidy, or Chiquita.
But I'm sure it'll happen eventually!
