So I'm thinking about buying a subscription to Cat Fancy magazine, as the kids at school are selling subscriptions as a fundraiser.

The cost of a 1 year subscription is $15, which doesn't sound too bad, but do you think it's worth the $1.25 an issue? (I'm not sure if I have to pay anything over and above the subscription cost yet). I do like looking at the pics of all of the different breeds, but haven't really been that impressed with the articles, etc.

I think they also had another cat magazine Cat World maybe, but not sure....

Is there another cat magazine out there that has good pics and useful articles, or is Cat Fancy the best out there?

Of course, I could always go with a home decorating magazine, etc...but it would be nice to get a good animal-related magazine.

As far as advice, information, and pictures go - TCS has any cat magazine beat.
You may find yourself bored with it since you'll likely already know most of what they print article wise.

That's a good price. Better then the deals at the cat shows
I used to get it, but after awhile I didn't get a lot of useful info from them anymore or they had articles I was not really interested in.

Once in awhile I'll flip thru the newest one at Petco waiting in line
I actually like Cat World better as it was more focused on showing cats. Cat Fancy is geared more to the typical household pet owner rather then breeds (tho they have "featured breeds".)

I would go for it. I used to get Cat Fancy when I was younger. Rob was going to surprise me with a subscription and forgot he had the little subscription card in his pocket. I found it before popping laundry in but he hasn't sent it in!

I have a subscription and I love the posters! I even bought backdated issues for cheap from a few local library. I realize that over the years, the magazine seems to have devoted more pages to ads. But, I'll still think it's a good read.

Thanks for the input...

Alas, it was "dog world" they had, not "cat world". They do have another cat mag. "I love cats", but it seems to come in less issues than catfancy.

I think I'll go for the catfancy subscription. I may also get an ArtNews subscription (cause I'm an art geek). Although "reptiles" magazine and "the smithsonian" are also interesting.
Hmm.. I need more expendable income...

Apparently "cat world" is a british magazine (I didn't know that)....They have a subscription on Amazon.com for $110
guess it'll be a while before I get that one.
There's also an AKC Gazette, but they don't carry a similar publication for the CFA (do any of the cat showing organizations have a magazine?).
tutti- that seems to be the way with ALL magazines lately. I used to subscribe to aquarium fish internation and about half of the magazine is ads...same with the dog fancy magazines I see.

Thanks for your input!

Funny. I get it, and I always kind of thought that it has kind of a dual personality, trying to be both a breeder-oriented and home-oriented magazine. The ads are very heavily breeder-specific. I like looking through them, if only for the photos!

CFA used to have a printed almanac - monthly but they are or have phased it out. It's all online now.

CFA also publishes a Yearbook with the top 25 cats, Kittens and Prermiership cats for the previous show season (May to April). It also includes breed articles, pictures of the best cats of each breed, an article from the Winn Feline Foundation etc. It's around 500+ pages thick. I paw through mine at least once a week (actually I'm currently looking at the '02-03 yearbook
) to check out lines and all that
Not too sure how much it costs since I get mine free every year for my birthday present!

I got tired of all the adds and old information in the magazine, so I stoped getting it years ago. I think there are better, more informative websites online that are free.
