pellet fuel as cat litter?

I have a serious litter odor problem with three cats in a one bedroom apartment and the clumping and flushable stuff just seems so expensive. Not to mention air purifiers.

Someone recommended useing "pellet fuel" and said that it is cheap and flushable? Has anyone tried this?

We use the wood stove pellets for litter. Works great (for me). I sift the boxes about every other day depending on how much they poop But I would not flush ANY kind of litter. I just would rather put it in paper/plastic bags and toss it in the garbage rather then pay for a plumbing bill if your system gets backed up

But getting them used to pellets takes about a week or two - you have to gradually add the pellets in the regular litter and as you scoop, replace with more pellets then regular litter. I think it took about 2 weeks to do this for ours.

Price - $5.00 for 40 lbs of pellets - bag last me 2-3 months (not sure how long). I have two litter boxes - the pellets just cover the bottom, you don't want it deep like normal litter.

Wow Thats one more reason for us to get a wood stove! We have been thinking of investing in one for our heating cost. We get buried hard in the winter time with gas Co. bills. It would save us on litter too!!!

yeah I wasn't so sure about the flushing part... I think you are right not to risk it.
But is it easy to clean out the wet parts of the litter with this stuff?
I think that is my odor problem - i scoop the poop several times a day.

You can kinda scoop it out, but its better to sift the broken down pellets and then put fresh pellets in. You don't want a lot of "sawdust" in the pan.
