Hi,
I'm new here to the site. I am also currently cat sitting for a friend who is on vacation and hoping some experts in the cat world can help me understand some odd behavior. I am also new 2 cats myself, just having adopted a gorgeous calico girl named Spicey from the local shelter around 7 months ago. She is spayed and is around 2 years old. She is the sweetest girl ever! My friend has 2 male cats, one neutered and the other intact. Well, the boys are getting along pretty well with my Spicey except they have been mounting her like she is in heat. At first I just thought they were just trying to show dominance over her or maybe conquer new territory, but they are actually "doing the deed" with her and the worst part is that she is not seeming to protest very much. The neutered one is worse than the intact one. He has even been trying to bite down on my arm and mount me as well. My husband laughs it off, but I'm wondering what is going on. I guess I would have more expected the worse behavior from the intact male. I know nothing can happen since my female is spayed but is there anything I can do to discourage this? I hate to bother my friend with this issue since she's on vacation. Perhaps I should just let them be cats since they are not really hurting anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You are cat sitting the 2 males in your home? If so, I would confine them to one room and keep them away from your female.

And encourage your friend to get the other male neutered before he starts spraying or worse. An intact male is prone to cancer the longer he stays intact. If the other male was neutered as a mature cat, he would still have the "mind" of a tom cat as far as mating and he also would be inclined to be spraying too. He just can't get anyone pregnant.

There could be entire females in heat nearby which is causing them to go into action on your female.

Thanks GoldenKitty45! I would have never even thought about an outside cat being in heat nearby, but that is a possibility because we live in a rural area and there are lots of feral kitties roaming the neighborhood. The behavior was just baffling me because I didn't think neutered males would mate. Riley (neutered) is just hades on wheels. Rush (intact) surprisingly is actually a pretty laid back guy. I think she has an appt to have Rush neutered when she comes back. She hasn't had him very long. They haven't sprayed anything so far. I am going to take your advice about keeping them in another room away from Spicey though. Riley has already had a go at some very expensive drapes and one of them has left me a present in the bathtub instead of using the nice, clean litter box! I guess it was a bad idea from the get go, to let them have run of the house. Thanks so much for your advice.
