Is the gas crisis everywhere or is it just in my town?

No problem here (Dallas). It jumped about 35 cents the day after Ike, but has come down about 10 of that now.

I have friends in Houston who say there is plenty of gas there, too, if the station has electricity.

Petrol is absolutely high here. And there was a whole big thing in the news about the buggers closing the pumps on cheaper days so that customers would have to fill up on the more expensive ones. I cannot believe they get away with that *grrrr*

It was hard to find gas here in Houston the first few days after IKE hit. No one should really see the effects at the gas pumps due to the hurricane just yet. I was told the oil refineries here in Texas (which is actually in the Gulf of Mexico) had 6 weeks of oil pumped before the shut down. No one should see those effects for atleast another month-which is pretty scary to hear because I couldn't imagine paying over $4 for gas! It's $3.67 in my neighborhood for regular...and we just got electricity back. I see gas trucks daily all over the place, so I am not really sure what the deal is out there where people are having trouble finding gas already.

About two weeks ago gas jumped to something like $1.49 a litre. There were HUGE lineups before gas went up. Now it's down to $1.26, if I remember correctly.

Our gas issue is not quite as bad as what you are going through Taurus. Our prices are averaging , as of yesterday, 3.89 to 4.19. We did have a few places that tried to charge over 5.00 for gas but that was quickly put an end to. And we had one popular store that only had 87 octane, no premium.

Probably at work :(
Gas is still scarce. I had two employees call out of work yesterday because they have no gas and can't find any. There were a couple of places that got gas yesterday morning but it lasted only a couple of hours before they were sucked dry.
The sad thing is that it hasn't slowed anyone down--there are still so many cars on the road.
I had to go out of town about an 1 1/2 hrs. north yesterday for a food show and there was plenty of gas there.
I don't understand how this area is so affected but no where else nearby is. Doesn't make sense.

No problems with gas shortage where I am. I hear it was caused by some guy saying that there was going to be a gas shortage, and then everyone panicking and filling up every possible thing they owned with gas (cars, boats, gas cans, motorcycles, lawn mowers, etc) which ended up using 3 times more gas over the weekend than they normally would have and now they have an acute shortage.

Not sure how much truth there is, but just something I heard in the rumor mill.
