Is the gas crisis everywhere or is it just in my town?

For two weeks now, gas has been the equivalant of liquid gold. Stations are running out for days at a time. Yesterday, I sat in line for 25 minutes before it was my turn to gas-up. I pumped $9.45 and the gas ran out. That gave me enough to drive elsewhere; elsewhere ended up being 20 miles away. I found a gas station that had it and got in line. Mind you, the line spanned into the right hand lane of a four lane highway. The attendant was walking car to car to inform us that it would be an hour wait at the very least. A lady had parked her car to go get a soda so when she came back by my car, I asked if any cars were even moving and she told me that the pumps were tearing up and the ones that were working were pumping a drop at a time. So, my 20 minute wait of not moving was all I could handle. I drove up the street about 3 miles and found a hole-in-the-wall gas station and was able to get gas. It took me about 2 hours total to find gas and get back home. In the meantime, I talked to a guy on a motorcycle on a ride from South Carolina and he said it was nothing like that down there, everyone still had gas. It is a scary situation to drive past so many gas stations and see paper bags over the pump nozzles. Most places that do have gas is limiting people to $20 worth so that everyone has a fair shot of getting a little bit of fuel.
Is anyone else having this situation in their area?

It's about the same way here, but not as bad as it was last week!
Most places do have at least one pump functioniong...but there are still several that are totally out. In my county, it's still running $4.50 a gallon for reg when they have it....but in surrounding counties, it's $4.02

Wow! I haven't seen that around here at all. The average is in the $3.40's around here but there is a place right down the road that has it for $3.39.

No shortages here, either....I think it's about $3.50-$3.60 per gallon.

I paid $4.19 yesterday. I just read an article in the newspaper that the only remaining gas station with gas yesterday morning had to get police to man the pumps because someone "brandished" a baseball bat to a guy because "supposedly" he cut in line in front of him. This is ridiculous!!

$3.89 or so here, but I haven't needed gas since before Ike, so I don't know if there are any shortages. I haven't seen any lines.

What part of Tennessee are you from? I live in Bartlett (literally just up the road from Memphis). We haven't seen anything like that around here yet (thankfully). I'm just curious if it's gonna spread this way.

There are no shortages here, except at the Shell stations where the police get their gas (that's what they were reporting last week)
. We are paying $3.89 for the "cheap" stuff.

She lives in East Tennessee; between Knoxville and Johnson City.

That makes sense then, it's all the way on the other side of the state from me. I'm hoping this doesn't spread any more though. Hopefully they'll get it under control to some degree so you guys won't have to deal with this much more

It's about that price here too

About a week and half ago we almost ran out of gas trying to find a gas station that had any gas.
We literally coasted in on fumes

There were some places in western Kentucky that were asking folks to limit their purchase and some did run out. We were told it was due to the oil refineries in Texas that had to shut down because of Hurricane Ike.

No problems in and around Boston - I paid $3.49 this afternoon. There were two stations on Route 9 in the Framingham area closed last week, but I think that was because they couldn't find anyone to work, not because of a shortage. (Of course it was a day I needed gas!) Both stations have been opened since, as best as I can tell.
