Before we get to the contest, please take time to read a few words from one of our members, Marianjela
:

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Number of children who are diagnosed with cancer every day in the United States: 46

Number of children that will be diagnosed before they are 19: 1 out of 330

Number of children who will not survive: 1 out of every 4...

Number of children who are currently fighting this battle: 35,000

Number of new drugs developed for childhood cancer in the past 25 years: ONE

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is an opportunity to reach out to people with the facts about childhood cancer; this month is an important symbol of our commitment on all days to find a cure.

Awareness, whether it's one day, one month or an endless tirade, is designed to draw attention to the troubles of childhood victims of cancer. By helping to bolster awareness and coordinate National and Worldwide efforts, families, doctors, friends and whole communities can work to improve the lives of children with cancer and those children who will be diagnosed in the future.

Joshua was diagnosed with cancer when he was three months shy of his 3rd birthday. He has undergone 3-1/2 years of chemotherapy, which has included swallowing over 3000 pills, being poked and prodded nearly 200 times, not including countless lifesaving blood transfusions. He has spent months in the children’s hospital over 2-1/2 hours away from family and home and over the past 38 months has had to endure 24 spinal taps. Josh finished his treatment in August of this year, but due to potential relapse and side effects he must follow up with his oncologists for the rest of his life.

In recognition of his fight and the millions of children that came before him and will unfortunately follow, we would like to host a little game of hide and seek...

Welcome to the Childhood Cancer Awareness Gold Ribbon Hunt!

How to Play:

Every day there will be gold ribbons randomly hidden in posts. They can be hidden anywhere in the forum to include stickies. There will be a random amount of gold ribbons hidden every day. If you find a gold ribbon, post a link to the thread in this contest thread along with the post number it appears in. The first person to find each gold ribbon, and post about it will receive 200 points. In addition, there will be one gold heart hidden every day. The first person to find it and post the link in this thread will receive 500 points.

Every time you find a gold ribbon or gold heart, the image will be added to your signature. At the end of the contest, the members that have found the most gold ribbons and gold hearts will receive additional points.

1st place - 25,000 points
2nd place - 10,000 points
3rd place - 5,000 points

The last day of the contest is September 29th.

Have fun and start hunting!

YAY, how fun.
To bad there wasn't a way to turn the winning points into a donation to a childrens cancer fund.

For those of you that are interested in making a monetary donation or a donation in time, you can visit any of the following links that are supporting childhood cancer:

Candlelighters
a non-profit foundation that provides information and awareness for children and adolescents with cancer and their families and supports research. *This organization was the first to reach out to our family when Josh was diagnosed, providing us with a care package the day of our admission to the oncology floor.

CureSearch
CureSearch unites the world's largest childhood cancer research organization, the Children's Oncology Group, and the National Childhood Cancer Foundation through our mission to cure childhood cancer. Research is the key to the cure.

Alex's Lemonade Stand
They emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient, Alexandra Scott (1996-2004), raising over $20 million towards a cure for childhood cancer. They encourage anyone and everyone, even your company, club, school, or family to hold a lemonade stand or other event anytime of year to support pediatric cancer research. *My children held a small stand at our church every Sunday for a month and raised $560 in which they proudly donated to Alex's dream!

Chili's Restaurant
On September 29th any proceeds made they will donate to St Jude's Research Hospital. They have raised over $50 to help fight childhood cancer.
