Wet food causing loose stools?

Hi all! I hope someone can tell me what's wrong with my cat before I take him to the vet.
My cat, Patches, has loose stools whenever he eats wet food. I switched from Merrick to Natural Balance limited diet thinking that he may have food allergies. He refused to eat the Natural Balance wet food for the first week and finally had hard, normal stool (he had loose stool when I was feeding him Merrick). He finally gave in and started eating it and his loose stool problem came back again. He's eating Orijen dry food.
When I first adopted him, he was treated for parasites (giardia i think?) but his stools were still loose. So because of him eating/not eating wet food, I think it's the wet food that's causing his loose stools.
Any ideas as to why this is happening?

It may be the switch to wet that causes the loose stools. IMO It is still much healthier for your cat to eat wet. You can get some acidoupholous from a health food store and sprinkle over the food. That usually does the trick
Best of luck

You need a Probiotic which will contain a strain or two of acidophilis
Be careful as many have too many strains and can cause the vary issue you are having..

How long ago was the cat treated?? Was a stool sample done to ensure the infection was gone?? NB is a far simpler food than merrick ... maybe try something with a touch of gravy vs the loads that merrick has?? a search on here will yield several items ...

I know this is a very old but was wondering if you ever found anything that helped. We have this very issue with our kittens. I think when we started adding wet their stool was very loose too. I really don't want to get rid of the wet food as I know that is better but I do wonder if I should cut it out and see if  that is the cause. Also we are feeding them wet and dry that has probiotics in it.

Yes, this is a very old thread. You would probably get more response if you start your own thread in this same forum.
I do hope you can get your problem resolved.
