Hello,

It's been a while since I've stopped by. Things have been going quite well with the cats (Romeo and Chloe)--at least I thought! This weekend I took them for their shots and the Vet said that Romeo's canine tooth needed to be removed. I feel like a bad mom, but I never noticed it! He's been eating and playing! But it did hurt when the Vet touched it and it was all red. So yesterday he went in for a Dental cleaning. The vet had to remove three teeth and said Romeo has Feline Oral Reobsorptive Lesions (FORLs).

He's doing well this morning. The pain meds make him a bit wobbly but he is eating. The oral antibiotics have been a challenge to say the least. I got him to take it in his food this morning. Cats!!!

From what the Vet has told me and online they don't know exactly what causes FORLs and other than brushing the teeth etc. they don't know how to stop it. I guess it an aging thing and Romeo is 7!

Does anyone else have a cat with this problem?
Thanks

Worried Mom in Michigan

FORLs are very common, and affect individual teeth, but are not a cause for the removal of all teeth. (for example, Stomatitis IS a condition which often requires full extractions)

You can read more here and here.

One of those links is for a Veterinary Specialist's website dentalvet.com and is a very useful reference site.

Interesting .. I though was using Personal knowledge accounts in which the cats that got the full removal all recovered the others underwent alot of IMHO unnecessary procedures ...
