I think my sweet Sam is sick AGAIN! I don't know if anyone remembers but he was sick about a month ago with what the vet assumed was tick fever and stayed at the vet several days. He has been fine since. However, today, he has stayed on the couch ALL day, and when I put down their food tonight, he didn't even jump down to eat (which he DID do last time he was sick.) I picked him up and put him by the food, but he wouldn't eat. Now he's back on the couch. I am just sick with worry. I plan to get him to the vet first thing in the morning. Any suggestions until then? The vet that I take him to is 30 minutes away, and the one here is just terrible, so I can't take him there tonight. But, I will definitely be calling in sick in the morning to get him to the vet. Poor boy.

I ended up calling the er vet last night to see what he thought. He told me to give him 1/2 of a baby aspirin to help with the fever and bring him in today. I did that, and he started to feel MUCH better in about an hour or so. This morning, he was back to his old self, eating like crazy and playing with his brother. I still plan to take him this afternoon (just not going to call in sick if I don't have to!)

Aww i'm pleased he's a lot better
I think i would be the same as you though in getting him checked out. Their our babies at the end of the day and we worry about them

Let us know what the vet said, but lots of healthy coming for Sam

I'm glad he's feeling better. Is it possible he got into something he shouldn't have? I agree taking to the vet anyway is a good idea. If he has some sort of virus in his system, like feline herpes, he will continue to have flare ups through out his life. A vet can tell you how to work to reduce the flareups.

A question for others, I thought asprin was a no-no for cats? I guess under a vets supervision may be differnt?

Cats can get little illnesses just like humans. They can last a day or two, then they're all better.

My sister gave her cats baby (low dosage) aspirin for a few years (their last years of old age) to help with arthritis problems. It was under the supervision/advice of her Vet.

Through her experience, I gave my older cat a 1/2 low dosage aspirin when I thought she was in pain from her arthritis/disc problem...and she also perked up right away. I guess there is no conclusive agreement on the 'aspirin for cats debate'

It's interesting that the same Vets will give cats Metacam...which definitely causes kidney problems in alot of cats (including mine). There are other pain relievers out there to use. The debate rages.

I'm so happy that Sam is feeling better. A trip to the Vet just to confirm that he's better would be good. Hope he continues to feel well.

The vet told me that aspirin should only be given under his supervision, and not often. He said he would only let me do it that night to get fever down, and because I didn't have anything else.
