If it is anything like my experience with those online dating sites, the guy will have sent you a picture that is 20 years old!
Make sure you meet him somewhere public, and take a friend with you. The person doesn't have to sit with you, but have them near not only for moral support, but also for safety sake.
And make sure the guy isn't married! Those sites are notorious for married guys looking for pieces on the side. If he offers you his office or cell phone number, insist on a home phone number. If he doesn't want to give you his home number, that's a good sign that he's married.

When my dear friend got a divorce, she signed up for a dating service. We spent tons of time together talking about the guys and all, and after a few months, she got tired of doing it alone, and convinced me to sign up! I was single at the time, so I did, too. I had a lot of fun! Got some good dinners and met some fun people out of it.
She's married now, and met her husband there. In fact, me too! My hubby and I went to school together, just didn't ever "consider" the other as date material until we read about each other online. And voila! He says we met online, I say we met at school!
So I blame my friend for getting us together, since I only got together with him because of the dating thing she made me do with her!
Ah, good times!

As Natalie_ca said, be safe. Be sure that if someone doesn't go with you, they know who the guy is, his info, including phone number and email, and where you are going.

and the phone thing is very true. (minus of course more and more people dont have home phones)
if someone doesn't go w/you, be sure that someone is aware of the meet-up info... & maybe have someone call you or set a time to call someone during/after the meet?
I am curious as to what online dating service you are a member of, the serious ones don't allow perverted, sexual pictures.

Please don't get into a car with him! Meet him there, and if you want to go somewhere else later, drive separately. Any decent man will completely understand this kind of caution.
